<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PICKERING <br /> <br /> BY-LAW NO. 6999/09 <br /> <br /> A by-law to regulate signs <br /> in the City of Pickering. <br /> <br /> <br /> WHEREAS pursuant to paragraph 7 of subsection 11(3) of the Municipal Act, 2001 a <br /> lower-tier municipality may pass by-laws respecting signs; <br /> <br /> AND .WHEREAS signs are necessary to advertise or identify. services, businesses, <br /> locations and provide other information; <br /> AND WHEREAS, if not effectively regulated, signs may create a nuisance, affect public <br /> safety and detract from the character of the community. <br /> <br /> NOW THEREFORE BE 1T RESOLVED THAT the Council of The Corporation of the <br /> City of Pickering enacts as follows: <br /> <br /> <br /> PART I - INTERPRETATION <br /> <br /> Objectives <br /> <br /> 1. This by-law shall be applied and interpreted in a manner consistent with the <br /> following objectives: <br /> • Reasonable means should be available to the public to erect signs on <br /> property in order to identify facilities, businesses and services located <br /> thereon. <br /> <br /> • Signs should not create any d)straction or safety hazard for pedestrians or. <br /> motorists, or create any other danger to the public. <br /> <br /> • Signs should not create any adverse impacts on adjacent public or private <br /> property. <br /> <br /> • Signs should not detrimentally alter the physical appearance and architecture <br /> of any building. <br /> <br /> • Signs should not create unnecessary visual clutter due to their size, number <br /> or location. <br /> • Temporary signs should be strictly regulated in order to limit the visual impact <br /> on the built environment and the consumption of resources. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> I <br />
