2: Matters for Consideration
2.1. Request to Declare City of Pickering a "Disaster Area"
Discussion period ensued with respect to declaring the City of Pickering a
"disaster area".
Resolution # 157/14
Moved By Councillor D. Dickerson
Seconded By Councillor B. McLean
Whereas the ice storm on December 22, 2013 created wide spread power
outages within the City of Pickering.
Whereas due to the ice storm over 9,000 customers were without power
within the City of Pickering for extended periods of time.
Whereas on December 23, 2013 the City of Pickering officially opened a
warming centre at the Pickering Recreation Complex for residents of the
City of Pickering.
Whereas the municipality of the City of Pickering experienced significant
damages due to the ice storm on December 22, 2013 and has
experienced substantial damage to municipal property and infrastructure.
Now therefore the Council of The Corporation of the City of Pickering
hereby requests the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing to declare
the City of Pickering a "disaster area"for the purposes of the Ontario
Disaster Relief Assistance Program (ODRAP); and
That a copy of this resolution be sent to the Minister of Municipal Affairs
and Housing, Durham Area MPP's and all Durham Municipalities.

That leave to introduce a By-law of the City of Pickering to confirm those
proceedings of the Council of the Corporation of the City of Pickering at its
Special Meeting of Council of January 13, 2014.
