To Permit Accessory Dwelling Units
City of Pickering
On October 25, 2004, the Executive Committee will consider a recommendation for approval of
Pickering Official Plan Amendment Application OPA 02-003/P and Zoning Amendment Application
A 19/02 to permit an accessory dwelling unit in detached dwellings and semi-detached dwellings.
This item is scheduled for the Council meeting on November 1,2004.
If Executive Committee and Council both adopt the recommendation for approval at their
October 25, 2004 meeting and their November 1, 2004 meeting, Council may consider the attached
by-laws later on at the same meeting. A by-law to establish a system for registration of
accessory dwelling units is also attached.
Statutory Public Meetings were held for these applications on November 21, 2002, and on
June 10, 2004.
Please note that these by-laws may be given all three readings at the November 1, 2004
Council Meeting, provided Council approves the above-noted application earlier that
same Meeting.
The purpose and effect of this by-law is to permit accessory dwelling units in detached dwellings
and semi-detached dwellings.

THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PICKERING
BY-LAW NO. 6394/04
Being a By-law to adopt Amendment 12 to the Official Plan for the
City of Pickering. (OPA 02-003/P)
WHEREAS pursuant to the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, c.p. 13, subsections 17(22) and
21(1), the Council of The Corporation of the City of Pickering may by by-law adopt
amendments to the Official Plan for the City of Pickering;
AND WHEREAS pursuant to Section 17(10) of the Planning Act, the Minister of
Municipal Affairs and Housing has by order authorized Regional Council to pass a
by-law to exempt proposed area municipal official plan amendments from its approval;
AND WHEREAS on February 23, 2000, Regional council passed By-law 11/2000 which
allows the Region to exempt proposed area municipal official plan amendments from its
approval;
AND WHEREAS the Region has advised that Amendment 12 to the City of Pickering
Official Plan is exempt from regional approval;
NOW THEREFORE THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PICKERING
HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
That Amendment 12 to the Official Plan for the City of Pickering, attached hereto
as Exhibit "A", is hereby adopted;
That the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to forward to the
Regional Municipality of Durham the documentation required by Procedure:
Area Municipal Official Plans and Amendments;
This By-law shall come into force and take effect on the day of the final passing
hereof.
BY-LAW read a first, second and third time and finally passed this
November ,2004.
