HomeMy WebLinkAboutBy-law 577/77Ya*oLAW RfPEALED BY REPEALS AMENDED BY AMENDS DISPOSITION THE CORPORATION OF THE TOW OF PICKERT'`C BY-LAW NUMBER '5-7-7/-7-7 Being a By-law of 7he Corporation of the To<,n of Pickering respecting the removal of snow and ice from and to r:unicinal lands WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of section 242 of The municipal Act, R.S.O. 1970, c.284, a Council of a Municipality may pass by-laws for the health, safety, morality and welfare of the inhabitants thereof; tiND WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of paragraphs 55 and 57 of subsection l of section 354 of the said Act„ a Council of a Municipality may pass by-laws respecting the clearing away and removal of snow and ice from certain premises and places, NOW T :EREFORE THE COL CIL OF THE CORPORATION OF TF F TOWN OF PICKERING H7RFBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS: 1. The owners of all classes of buildings, occupied or unoccupied.,, in the municipality shall clear away and removes snow* and ice from the sidewalks on the highways in front of, AW alongside or at the rear of such buildings within sifts hours VK_ from the time when such snow or ice shall have fallen or accumulated thereon, so that such sidewalks shall be kept clear of snow and ice. 2. In the event that snow and ice, or either of them, is not cleared away or removed from the sidewalks on any highway or part of a highway in front of, alongside or at the rear of any building referred to in section I, above, within the time limit prescribed therefor, the Torn of Pici,:ering may proceed to have such `snow and ice cleared away and removed from' such sidewalks at the expense of the owner of the lands upon which such building as situated, which expense may be recovered by the Town in like manner as municipal taxes. 3. In the event that snow and ice, or either of them, is not cleared away:or removed from the sidewalks on any highway or part of a highway in front of, alongside or at the rear of any vacant lot, the Town of Pickering may proceed to have such snow and ice cleared away and removed from such sidewalks at the expense of the owner of the vacant lot, which expense may be recovered by the Town in like mariner as municipal taxes. -2- 4. No person shall sweep. shovel, throe. drop or place, or pause to be sweat, shovelled, thrown, dropped or elaced, any snow or ice onto the travelled portion of any hig.nwav ;11t Iii the Town of Pickaring or onto any sidewalk on any high,,,,, ,v within the Town of Pickering. 5. Any person who contravenes any of the provisions of this by-law shall be liable upon conviction 'thereof to a fine not exceeding one t±ousand dollars ($1,000.00) for each offence exclusive of costs, recoverable sander the provisions of The Summary Convictions Act. 6.
