BY-LAW NO. 6137/03
Being a by-law to permit various retail
business establishments in the City of
Pickering to be open on certain holidays for
the development of tourism.
WHEREAS pursuant to Section 4(1) of the Retail Business Holidays Act, R.S.O. 1990,
c. R.30, as amended, the Council of a municipality may be by-law permit retail business
establishments in the municipality to be open on holidays for the maintenance or
development of tourism; and
WHEREAS in an effort to respond to the economic impact of SARS (Severe Acute
Respiratory Syndrome) within the community and encourage people to shop, eat and
stay in the City of Pickering, the Council of the Corporation of the City of Pickering
deems it appropriate to allow retail stores to open on certain holidays;
NOW THEREFORE THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF
PICKERING HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
1. Retail business establishments may be open on the following holidays:
Victoria Day, Monday, May 19, 2003
Civic Holiday, Monday, August 4, 2003
Labour Day, Monday, September 1, 2003
Thanksgiving Day, Monday, October 13, 2003
BY-LAW read a first, second and third time and finally passed this 20th day of May,
2003.
