HomeMy WebLinkAboutBy-law 3545 A By-law of the Municipal Corp- oration of The Township of Picketing to provide for a vote being taken of the Electors on the question of Ex- tending the Franchise WHEREAS by resolution number 36/68 the Municipal Council of the Corporation of the Township of Picketing directed that the following question be put before the electorate at the next municipal election - "Are you in favour of extending the vote on all non-money questions in municipal elections to all persons over the age of 21 who are British subjects by birth or naturalization?" AND WHERFAS section 257 of the Municipal Act, RSO 1960, Chapter 249 provides for the placing of questions before the electorate on the ballot at municipal elections= BE IT THEREFORE ENACTEDby the Municipal Council of the Corp- oration of the Township of Picketing 1. That a vote of the electors be taken on the question~ "Are you in favour of extending the right to vote at Municipal Elections for members of Council to all persons of the full age of twenty-one years who are British Subjects and who have reeide~ in the municipality for at least on, year in accord- ance with the Municipal Franchise Extension Act?" 2. In this by-law "electors" shall mean persons entitled to vote at municipal elections~ 3. The votes of the Electors shall be taken on the said question on the 2nd day of December, 1968 between the hours of 10 o~clock in the forenoon and eight o~clock in the afternoon, at the various Polling Booths at the same time and place as the~Elections are held. 4. On the 29th day of November, 1968 at the hour of 10 o~clock in the forenoon, the Head of the Council of the said Corporation, or some member of the Council appointed for that purpose by resolution, shall attend at the office of the Clerk of the said municipality, in the Township of Picketing, for the purpose of appointing, and if requested so to do, appoint by writing, two persons to attend the final summing up of the votes by the Clerk - one person to attend on behalf of the persons interested in and voting in the affirmative on the said question, and a like number on behalf of the persons interested in and voting in the negative on the said question. 5. On the 3rd day of December, 1968 at the hour of 10 o~clock in the forenoon, at the office of the Clerk of the Mun- icipality, the Clerk shall attend and sum up the votes given in the affirmative and negative on the said question. !
