A BY-LAW OF THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF PICKERING TO AUTH-
OriZE PARTICIPATION IN THE ONTARIO MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES RETIREHEN~
SYSTEM.
WHEREAS pursuant to section 15 of The Ontario Municipal Employees
Ret~ent System Act, 1961-62, a municipality or local board may
by by-law om ~esolutton elect to pa~ticlpate in the Ontario
Municipal Employees Retirement System and pay to the fund the
total of the employe~ and employee contributions, and has all
the powems necessary and incidental thereto:
NOW THEREFORE BE IT ENACTED as a by-law of the Co~poration of
{he Township of Pick~r~ng~"he~ein called the Employer, as follows:
i'- 1, The Employe~ hereby elects to participate in the Ontario
Municipal Employees Retirement System as of the first day of
July, 19§5, herein called the effective date, and
authomizes the Clerk to submit this elect£on
in writing, by ~ovision of a certified copy of this by-law,
to the Secmeta~y-Treasu~e~ of the Ontario Municipal Em-
ployees Retirement Boamd.
2. Every employee who, beforethe effective date, was an employee
· of the Employer is entitled to become a membe~ of the System
if he is employed on a continuous full-time basis and at least
75% of the employees so employed become members,
3, Every person who becomes an employee of the Employer on
aftem the effective date shall, as a condition of his
employment, become a membe~ of the System, om if he is
already a membe~ resume his contributions to the System,
on the completion of six months of service on a
continuous full-time basiss p~ovided however, that if he is
already a membe~ of the System or any other appmoved pension
plan, as defined in the 0nta~io Municipal Employees Retire-
ment System Act, 1961-62, contributions by and on his behalf
may, on the election of the employee, commence on any date
dumlng the fimst., slx months of his semvice.
~. The Clerk of the Township of Picketing is hereby
authorized to armange for the deduction f~om the earnings of
each employee who is a member of the System, the contributions
required to be made by the member, and to ~emit such contri-
butions togethe~ with the amounts ~equi~ed unde~ the Act to
be paid by the Employer, to the Secretary-Treasurer of the
Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement Board, and to execute
all necessary documents and to do such things as are necessary
to car~y out ~. intent of this by-law.
~/~ The Employer hereby certifies that employees who are engaged
as policemen, and firemen ~retire at age
