A By-law to authorize the Township
Engineer to supervise the trim~,ing
and removal of trees and for other
purposes.
~HEREAS by Section 483 (6) of The Municipal Act
R.S.O. 1950 Chapter 2~3 as amended it is orovided that except with
the authority of an officer of the Council of the said Corpor-
ation no person ahall r,~move or cut down or injure any tree
upon a highway.
AND WHEREAS by section 483 (4) (h) of the said
Municipal Act the said Council is empowered to pass by-laws
authorizing any officer of the Council to supervise the trim~ing
of trees planted upon a highway or upon private property where
the branches extend over a highway or to remove decayed or
dangerous trees or trees which have by by-law of the TowTaship
been directed to be removed.
AND WHEREAS the said Council deems it expedient to
authorize the Township Engineer from time to time to carry out
the duties aforesaid.
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Township
of Pickering enacts as follows:
1. The Engineer of the Corporation is and he is hereby
authorized as an officer of the Council to supervise the trimming
of trees planted upon a highway or upon private property where
the branches extend over a highway or to remove decayed or
idangerous trees or trees which._rv _j ~-- ~- this Oorporation

2. Where this Council has directed the r~moval of any
tree planted upon a highway the owner of such tree shall be given
ten days' notice of the intention of the Council to remove such
tree and be recompensed for his trou%le in planting and protecting

it and if he so desires he sh~ 1 be entitled to remove the tree
himself but shall not be entitled to any further or other
compensation.
Any notice required to be %iven under this By-law
may be Riven by leavfng it with a grown-up person residing on the
land or if the land is unoccupied by posting it in a conspicuous
place on the ]and.
Except with the authority of the Engineer of this
Corporation no person shall remove, cut down or injure any tree
within the said Corporation planted upon a highway or up~n~
