A BY-LAW OF THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF PICKERING TO AUTHORIZE
THE CONSTRUCTION OF WATERMAINS.
WHEREAS a petition has been presented to Council from certain of the
owners of properties fronting on the streets set out in Schedule "A"
attached hereto, requesting it to undertake as a local improvement the
construction and installation of watermains on the said streets wet out
in the said Schedule;
AND WHEREAS it is expedient that the Corporation undertake the con-

struction of certain watermains, all as hereinafter defined and described
(hereinafter referred to as "The Works") and that the same shall be
undertaken as a local improvement;
AND WHEREAS Council deems it expedient to define an area in the Township
so that a portion of the cost of the work, if necessary, may be assessed
( and levied on the rateable property in the area;
NOD WHEREAS Messrs. Proctor, Redfern and Laughlin, Consulting Engineers
?j (hereinafter referred to as "The Engineers) have reported to the
Council that the estimated cost of the works is $ 99,345.00;
AND WHEREAS the subdividor of 252 lots in Broken Front, Range 2, lot 34,
Chesterhill Developments Limited, has agreed to pay approximately $10,000.00,
being 50% of the cost of mains around the perimeter of their subdivision
which will go to reduce the cost of the works and their failure to-pay
would not be a liability on the Owners;
41 WHEREAS what otherwise would be the Corporation's share is to be
- assessed against owners of property within the area, and if a portion of that
share is recovered from any source it will not be necessary to assess for it;
NOW THEREFOR& The Municipal Corporation of the Township of Pickering
ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
1. The construction of the works is hereby authorized and directed on
the streets and in the locations thereon, particularly set out in
Schedule "A" hereto, as a local improvement under the provisions
of the Local Improvement Act.
2. The engineers are hereby authorized and directed to make such plans,
( profiles and specifications and furnish such information as may be
necessary for the purpose of entering into a contract for the
execution of the works.

3. The works shall be carried on and executed according to the dir-
ections and orders of the engineers.
4.
The Reeve add the Clerk of the Corporation are hereby authorized
to cause a contract for the construction of the works to be made
and entered into with some person or persons, firm, or corporation,
subject to the approval of this Council, to be declared by resolution.
5. The Treasurer of the Corporation may, subject to the approval of
the Councils agree with any Bank for temporary advances of money to
meet the cost of the works pending the completion of it.
6. The special assessment shall be paid by Twenty annual instalments.
7. k portl6n _A_W the cost of the work, including Debenture charges, and
the cost of the maintenance and managing of the works including the
cost of the utilities supplied may, if necessary, be assessed and
levied on the rateable property ?detcribed in Schedule "B" attached
hereto. rl

8. The portion of the cost of the works to be chargeable upon the land
abutting upon the works is k 85,080.00.
