HomeMy WebLinkAboutBy-law 1541B Y - L A W N U ~1 B, E R .... 1 ~ 4 1 WHEREAS: by Section 26 of ti~e ~ighway Traffic act, Chapter 288, ~1937, the Council of any Townshi;~ may by reason of the density of population or number or ?roxi~ity of buildings therein or in any part thereof by Dy-Law approved by the Department of i;ighways, prohibit a motor vehicle from being operated at a greater rate of speed than thirty ~iles per hour in the Township, or such part or parts thereof, or on such high%~ay or parts of highways therein as the Ey-Law ~ay define, and directs that in such case notices regard- ing tee speed limit shall be posted on th~ hi~]hways of thc i~ownsbip to comply ~'~l~h [~he ~e,,.iulations of the said Department. BE ]T THE,YSFCkE Ei~ACTED by the Council of the ~4unicipal Cor;.,oration of the Tewnship of Pickering: The ~pera~inc of a motor vehicle on the portion of tLe said Provincial ~{ighway i,,umber Two which extend, across the sa~d Police Village of Pick.ring (the sara. b~ing from the western limit of Lot :~umber 16 to ~he eastern limit of Lot Number 13 in the first and second Concessions of the said Township) at a greater rate of speed than thirty miles per hour is hereby prohibited. Notices regarding such speed limit shall be posted on the said ;~ighway, or on that and other highways, as may be necessary in complyin.; with the ~iegulations of the Department of Highways for Cntario. Any person who violates any of the provi.,ions of this By-Law shall ~ncur, for the first offence, a penalty of not less than $ 5.00 and not ~aore than ~ 50.00; for the second offence a penalty o£' not less than ,~ 10.OO and not more than ;~ 1OO.OO, and in addition, his license or permit may be suspended for any period not exceeding three months, and for any subsequent offence shall incur a penalty of not less than ~ 20.00 and not more than ~ ~OO.O~, and in addition ~,is license or p~rmit may be suspended £or any purioo no~ exceeding six months.
