HomeMy WebLinkAboutBy-law 1282 C 0 P Y B Y- L A W N U M B E R 1 2 8 2 OF THE MUNICIPAL CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF PICKERING A BY-LAW TO REGULATE AI\M LICENSE PUBLIC GARAGES AND TO MAKE CERTAIN BUILDING RESTRICTIONS WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THE POLICE V?LLAPIE OF PICKERING. THE COUNCIL OF THE MUNICIPAL CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF PICKERING ENACTS AS FOLLOWS: 1. That no public garage shall be kept or operated within the limits of the said Police Village of Pickering until the operator or person intending to operate the same shall have obtained a license therefor from the said Municipal Corporation. 2. That in future no license shall be granted for the erection, establishment or opening of a public garage in any part of the said Police Village of Pickering which lies east of Lots Nos. 15 in the lst and 2nd Concessions of the said Township of Pickering, or in or at any building or land fronting or that would front on the public highways in said Police Village which lie between Lots Numbers 14 and 1? in the 1st and 2nd Concessions of the said Township, other than for a public garage already established on the said Lot Number 11? in the Second Concession aad now in operation; and the establishment and operation of public garages not now established and in operation in the said areas of the Police Village of Pickering is hereby prohibited. 3. That every such license for public garages shall be issued yearly and shall be subject to cancellation by the Council of the said Municipal Corporation at any time on a report from the Provincial Fire Marshall or any one of his Assistants that proper and sufficient safeguards are not being taken at any such public garage to prevent the danger of fire in storing or handling gasoline and other inflammable substances, or for any other Rood and sufficient reason. 4. That in future no person shall erect any building or additions to a building within the limits of the said Police Village of Pickering, other than with the main walls of brick, iron, con- crete stone, or with frame external walls which shall be covered on the outside by one of the following methods, that is to say: (1) Shr,eted with clapboards or tonq_ued and t,rooved with inch boards and shingled. (2) Sheeted with one-inch boards, strapped with one-inch by two inch furring at 16 inches from centre to centre and plas- tered or roughcast or covered with stucco. (3) Sheeted with inch boards and veneered withfbur and one-half inches of brick or one and one-half inches of concrete, or six inches of stone, properly secured to the woodwork. Veneering shall not rest or be supported by wood lintels or beams. 5. Any person violating any of the provisions of this 3y-Law shall, upon conviction before any Police Magistrate having jurisdiction in the premises, be liable to a fine of not less than Twenty-Five Dollars nor more than Fiftv Dollars and the legal costs of the prosecution, and on default of payment forthwith of the fine so inflicted and of the said costs, the said fine and costs shall be levied by distress and sale of the goods and chattels of 2 .. the offender, and in case of there being no distress found out of which the said fine and costs can be levied, such offender shall be liable to be punished by imprisonment in the County gaol of the County of Ontario for any period not exceeding Thirty days, with or without hard labor, unless such fine and costs and charges of conveying such offender to the said County Gaol, are sooner paid.
