THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF PICKERING
BY-LAW NUMBER 3 3 " U
A By-law of the Corporation of
the Township of Pickering to
restrict the speed of Motor
Vehicles.
WHEREAS subsection 2 of section 59 of The Highway Traffic Act (R.S.O.
1960, Chapter 172) authorizes a Corporation to prescribe a speed limit
of 25 miles per hour for motor vehicles driven on highways under its
jurisdiction in any built-up area within the Municipality;
AND WHEREAS each of the highways or portions of highways described
in Section 1 of this by-law is in a built-up area as defined in
Clause 1 of Subsection 1 of Section 1 of The Highway Traffic Act;
AND WHEREAS it is deemed expedient that the speed of motor vehicles
on the said highways or portions of highways within the Municipality
of the Corporation of the Township of Pickering be restricted;
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Township of
Pickering enacts as follows:
1. When any highway or portion of highway set out in Schedule "All
attached is marked in compliance with the regulations under the
Highway Traffic Act, the maximum rate of speed thereon shall be
25 miles per hour.
2. The penalties provided in Subsection 12 of Section 59 of The
Highway Traffic Act shall apply to offences against this by-law.
3. This By-law shall not become effective until approved by the
Department of Transport.
