Being a by-law to authorize the
construction of a Works/Transit
Centre at an estimated cost of
$1,038,200.00
WHEREAS it is desirable that a Works/Transit Centre for the
Town of Pickering be constructed to replace the Works Yard
which was expropriated by the Federal Government for the
proposed International Airport;
AND WHEREAS the construction of the Works/Transit Centre is
described in a Report of Consultants Totten, Sims, Hubicki
Associates Limited and is at an estimated cost of $1,038,200.00;
AND WHEREAS authority for said construction of that joint
facility is found in Section 336 (1) of The Municipal Act,
R.S.O. 1970 for the Works aspect and in section 354 (90)
(iii) for the Transit aspect of the Centre;
AND WHEREAS it is estimated that a Provincial grant will be
obtained by the Town in the amount of $432,450.00;
AND WHEREAS it is deemed expedient for the purpose of construct-
ing the said Works/Transit Centre to borrow a sum not exceeding
the sum of $650,000.00;
AND WHEREAS the total cost of the construction of the Works/
Transit Centre for which a grant or subsidy is not received
will be levied by an annual rate against all the rateable
property in the Town of Pickering over a period of 20 years;
AND WHEREAS application has been made to the Council of the
Regional Municipality of Durham to borrow said sum and to
issue debentures therefor;
NOW THEREFORE THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF
PICKERING HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:

1. The construction of the Works/Transit Centre be and
the same is hereby authorized.
2. There shall be borrowed for the purpose set out in
Clause 1 the sum of $650,000.00 which sum shall be a
charge against all the rateable property in the Town
of Pickering.
3. That the special rate to pay for the said Works/
Transit Centre site shall be paid in 20 annual
instalments.
