HomeMy WebLinkAboutBy-law 955/79THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF PICKERING BY-LAW N0.955/79 Being a by-law to fix instalment dates, penalty amounts and interest rates re- specting the payment and collection of taxes. WHEREAS By-Law 354/76, enacted by the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Pickering on January 2nd, 1976, provides generally for the payment and collection of taxes; and WHEREAS, pursuant to sections 3 and 4 of By-Law 354/76, it is deemed expedient at this time to fix the due dates for the payment of instalments of 1979 taxes, to fix the amount of penalty for non-payment of 1979 taxes, and to fix rates of interest on unpaid 1979 taxes; and WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of subsection 1 of section 521a of The Municipal Act, R.S.O. 1970, chapter 284, as amended, Council may by by-law authorize the preparation and giving of two separate tax notices, one specifying the amount of taxes payable for all purposes except school pur- poses and one specifying the amount of taxes payable for school purposes; NOW THEREFORE, the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Pickering HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS: 1. The Town Treasurer-Tax Collector is hereby author- ized to prepare and give two separate tax notices for 1979 taxes, one notice specifying the amount of taxes payable for all purposes except school purposes and one specifying the amount of taxes payable for school purposes. 2. The due dates for the payment of 1979 taxes in instalments are as follows: (a) taxes payable purposes: - due date of February 26 - due date of April 25th, for all purposes except school first instalment th, 1979 second instalment 1979 (b) taxes payable for school purposes: - due date of first instalment June 25th, 1979 - due date of second instalment September 25th, 1979 3. The amount of the penalty for non-payment of 1979 taxes or any instalment thereof shall be one (1) per cent of the outstanding amount imposed on the first day of the first calendar month immediately following the day of default and on the first day of each calendar month thereafter in which default continues, but not after the end of the year 1979. - 2 - 4. The Town Treasurer-Tax Collector shall add to the amount of all taxes, due and unpaid in 1979, interest at the rate of one (1) percent of the amount unpaid per month for each month or fraction thereof after the 31st day of December, 1979, and shall continue to collect such unpaid taxes together with interest at the aforesaid rate until such taxes are paid.
