BY-LAW NUMBE.R 1936/84
Being a by-law to designate property owned
by Peter and Rebecca Constantinides in the
hamlet of Whitevale as being of architectural
and historical value or interest
WHEREAS pursuant to paragraph (a) of section 29.6 of the Ontario
Heritage Act, R.S.O. 1980, c. 337 the council of a municipality is
authorized to enact by-laws to designate real property, including
all buildings and structures thereon, to be of architectural and
historic value or interest; and
WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Pickering has
caused to be served on the owners of the lands and premises being
Peter and Rebecca Constantinides in the hamlet of Whitevale and
upon the Ontario Heritage Foundation, notice of intention to so
designate the aforesaid real property and has caused such notice of
intention to be published in the same newspaper having general cir-
culation in the municipality once for each of three consecutive
weeks; and
WHEREAS no notice of objection to the proposed designation has been
served on the clerk of the municipality;
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Pickering
HEREBY ENACTS as follows:
There is designated as being of architectural and historical
value or interest the real property owned by Peter and
Rebecca Constantinides in the hamlet of Whitevale, more
particularly described in Schedule "A" attached hereto.
The municipal solicitor is hereby authorized to cause a copy
of this by-law to be registered against the property described
in Schedule "A" hereto in the proper land registry office.
The Clerk is hereby authorized to cause a copy of this by-law
to be served on the owner of the aforesaid property and on the
ontario Heritage Foundation and to cause notice of the passing
of this by-law to be published in the same newspaper having
general circulation in the municipality once for each of three
consecutive weeks.
BY-LAW READ a first, second and third time and finally PASSED this
3rd day of December, 1984.

SCHEDULE "A" TO BY-LAW ~UMBER 1936/84
ALL AND SINGULAR that certain parcel or tract of lands and
premises situate, lying and being in the Town of Pickering, in
the Regional Municipality of Durham and Province of Ontario
and being composed of Lots 53 and 54, according to Plan 21,
registered in the Registry Office for the Registry Division
of Durham, designated as Part 2 on a plan of survey of record
registered in the said Office as Plan 40R-2250.

REASON FOR DESIGNATION
The house on Lots 43 and 54, Registered Plan 21, part of a subdivi-
sion of Lots 31 and 32, Concession 5, appears to have been built
around 1870 while owned by Trueman White. The subdivision that
created a separate lot was registered by Trueman White on January
18, 1871.
The house is a modest early Victorian farm house, a storey and a
half with a central gable and gable post. It has large arched
windows with original glass and sash. Original siding material was
board and baton. There is evidence of an original centre chimney
and a porch now gone. It has its original barn circa 1870, modified,
in good repair which contributes to the homestead appearance.
Being part of Whitevale from 1870, it contributes to the nineteenth
century streetscape and demonstrates the evolution in house styles
from colonial to early Victorian. Whitevale is an outstanding
example of a nineteenth century rural Ontario village, remarkably
picturesque in its setting, with a substantial number of its
original buildings contributing to its appearance and feel.
