Presentations/Delegations 4.1 Introduction to LEAD M. Walker and Y. Brown shared information regarding the LEAD Program. T. Higgins informed the Committee that the City is currently gathering information regarding this program, and has not made a commitment at this time to move forward with the LEAD program. A question and answer period ensued with members discussing the importance of City staff being trained on serving persons living with disabilities, factoring in accessibility when the City is procuring equipment and services, and the timelines, steps, and costs involved should the City choose to proceed with the LEAD Program. 5. New Business 5.1 Black History Month J. San Antonio spoke to the history of Black History Month, what resources the City is making available to acknowledge and recognize Black History, and discussed the concept of diverse identities and intersectionality. A. Lue spoke to his lived experience as a Black para- athlete, and the barriers he has experienced and overcome. 5.2 Site Plan Reviews (S 01/22 – Tribute at Liverpool, and S 07/21 – on Sandy Beach Rd.) I. Janton provided information regarding S01/22 Tribute Site Plan and solicited comments from the Committee. Members discussed the amount of units that would be allocated to be accessible, the placement of the building and the amount of sun light that units would be subject to, and concerns around pedestrian Page 3 of 4 Item/ Ref # Details & Discussion & Conclusion (summary of discussion) Action Items/Status (include deadline as appropriate) navigation and how the project will connect to the adjacent City Centre. I. Janton provided information regarding the S 07/21 Site Plan on Sandy Beach Rd. and solicited comments from the Committee. Members provided no comments. 5.3 Canada Day Planning T. Higgins provided information on the City’s 2022 Canada Day event and how the Committee would be involved in this event. The Committee discussed: • the anticipated need for “quiet space” at this event and how that can be designed into this event; • Autism Ontario and Resources for Exceptional Children Durham expressed interest in being involved; • positive interactions with the public at past Canada Day events; • the placement of a booth/space in a highly visible area of the event; • having giveaway items at the event; • scheduling activities at the booth such as music therapy, yoga, art therapy geared to those living with disabilities; and, • having soccer balls to give away at the event.; 5.4 Review of 5 Year Plan vis a vis 2022 T. Higgins provided information on the 5 Year Plan and the findings of the National Disability Survey Report, specifically highlighting the impacts of COVID-19 including worsening mental health, greater social isolation, deteriorated peer relationships, and decreased physical activity. T. Higgins encouraged members to review the report to understand how the findings may be incorporated into the Committee’s 2021-2022 Report to Council. 5.5 Planning for AAC’s 2021-2022 Report to Council Page 4 of 4 Item/ Ref # Details & Discussion & Conclusion (summary of discussion) Action Items/Status (include deadline as appropriate) T. Higgins provided information on the Committee’s Report to Council for 2021-2022, indicating an estimated timeline of presenting the report to Council in April or May. T. Higgins encouraged the Committee to bring forward ideas and information to be included in the report. 5.6 MSAA Updates T. Higgins provided an update on the MSAA Desk Audit that is currently examining the City’s policies and processes for AODA compliance. 6. Correspondence There were no items of correspondence. 7. Other Business & Updates 7.1 Member Roundtable T. Higgins surveyed the Members for updates. Members discussed the City’s response to the damage occurring to the Pickering Football Club dome facility. 8. Next Meeting – March 16, 2022 10. Adjournment Meeting adjourned.
