HomeMy WebLinkAboutBy-law 3332/89 THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF PICKERING BY-LAW NUMBER 3332/89 Being a by-law to amend By-law Number 2206/86 for the licensing, regulating and governing of taxicab drivers, owners and brokers Whereas Council enacted By-law Number 2206/86 on May 5, 1986 for the licensing, regulating and governing of taxicab drivers, owners and brokers; and Whereas it is deemed expedient to amend this by-law to provide for taxicabs that are accessible to disabled persons; Now Therefore the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Pickering hereby enacts as follows: l, Schedule 1 of By-law Number 2206/86 is hereby amended by adding thereto the following: l(b/(i~ "Disabled Person" shall mean a person who is completely and habitually dependent on the continued use of or combination of any of the following assistive devices: i) Walker ii) Cane(s) used because of paralyzed mobility of that person iii) Crutches iv) Wheelchair - either manual or motorized v) External Prosthesis double, both legs, above knee amputees vi) External Prosthesis - single, one leg, above knee amputee with habitual use of a cane or crutch when wearing prosthesis vii) Leg Braces - double, both legs, full length viii) Leg Brace - single, one leg, with habitual use of a cane or crutch when wearing brace ix) Internal Prosthesis replacement of both knee joints x) Internal Prosthesis replacement of both knee joints xi) Oxygen tanks either on wheels or cart, etc, l(g) "Wheelchair Accessible Taxicab" shall mean a vehicle that is capable of carrying disabled persons, 2, By-law Number 2206/86 is hereby amended by adding thereto the following: 50A Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 47(1), (1) No more than three licences may be issued to the owners of a wheelchair accessible vehicle, (2) No less than 25% of the riders using a wheelchair accessible vehicle over a period of 365 days shall be disabled persons, 2 By-law read a first, second and third time and finally passed this 4th day of December, 1989, Mayor Clerk
