Being a by-law to ratify Amendment No. I to the
Bargaining Unit Local Agreement with Canadian Union
of Public Employees Local 129 under the Social
Contract Act, 1993
WHEREAS, pursuant to subsection 13(I) of the Social Contract Act, 1993, S.O. 199.3, chapter 5, The
Corporation of the Town of Picketing, bein8 an e.m. ployer '.m. the public sector, .entered into a Bargaining
Unit Local Agreement dated August 4, 1993 with Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 129,
being a trade union having bargaining rights in respect of a unit of the Town's employees; and
WHEREAS it is deskable to amend that Agreement in certain respects;
NOW THEREFORE, the Council of The Corporation of the Town of Pickering HEREBY ENACTS AS
FOLLOWS:
1. Amendment No. I, dated September 24, 1993, to the Bargaining Unit Local Agreement, dated
August 4, 1993, and executed on behalf of The Corporation of the Town of Picketing by the
Town Manager (Acting) in the form at~ached hereto as Schedule A, affecting all Town
employees who are members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 129 bargaining
unit, is hereby ratified.

entered into under Part V of the
Social Contract Act, 1993, S.O. 1993, chapter 5, between
THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF PICKERING
herein called the "Town"
CANADIAN UNION OF PUBLIC EIVlPLOYEE5 LOCAL 129
herein called the "Union"
WHEREAS, pursuant to subsection 13(1) of the Social Contract Act, 1993, S.O. 1993, chapter 5, herein
called the "Act", the Town, being an Employer in the public sector, entered into a Local Agreement
dated August 4, 1993 with the Union, being a Bargaining Agent as def'med in the Act; and
WHEREAS the Town and the Union wish to amend the provisions of that Agreement in certain respects;
NOW THEREFORE the Town and the Union hereby enter into this Local Agreement Amending
Agreement, and hereby agree as follows:
1. In this Agreement, the term,
(a) "Local Agreement" means the Local Agreement dated August 4, 1993 between the
Town and the Union; and
(b) "Transit Employee" means an Employee who is employed in the operation of Picketing
Transit or Picketing Specialized Services.
2. The Town and the Union acknowledge and agree that they are bound by the terms and conditions
of the Local Agreement and shall continue to be bound by it, as amended hereby.
3. Sections 5, 6 and 7 of the Local Agreement are hereby deleted and the following substituted for
them:
5. (1) In 1993, every Employee (except Transit Employees) shall take the following
unpaid leaves of absence:
(a) October 8, 1993 - one day
(b) November 11, 1993 - one day
(c) December 24, 1993 - half day (morning)
(d) December 31, 1993 - half day (morning)
(2) In 1993, every Transit Employee shall take the following unpaid leaves of
absence:
(a) December 24, 1993 - half day (morning)
(b) December 29, 1993 - one day
(c) December 30, 1993 - one day
(d) December 31, 1993 - half day (moming)
(3) Where, under the Town's Voluntary Leave Program, an Employee takes
voluntary unpaid leave after June 14, 1993 and before January 1, 1994, the
Employee, while having to take a leave of absence on the days specified in
subsection (1), shall be paid for those days, up to the number of days the
Employee takes under that Program.
6. In 1994, every Employee shall take the following unpaid leaves of absence:
(a) lune 30, 1994 - one day
(b) September 2, 1994 - one day
(c) December 23, 1994 - half day (morning)
(d) December 25, 1994 - one day
(e) December 29, 1994 - one day
(f) December 30, 1994 - half day (morning)
7. In 1995, even Employee shall take the following unpaid leaves of absence:
(a) June 30, 1995 - one day
(b) September 1, 1995 - one day
(c) December 22, 1995 - half day (morning)
(d) December 27, 1995 - one day
(e) December 28, 1995 - one day
(f) December 29, 1995 - half day (morning)
4. Subsection 10(1) of the Local Agreemem is hereby deleted and the following substituted for h:
10. (1) In 1993, every Employee who has booked any pan of his or her vacation on any
of the days that will be taken as unpaid leave of absence will be permitted to
re-schedule his or her vacation at a mutually agreeable time, so long as such
re-scheduling is completed by October 15, 1993.
Section 12 of the Local Agreement is hereby deleted and the following substituted for it:
12. The Town shall require all of its contractors over which it has or may exercise control
respecting days of work to suspend work on those days or pans of days that will be
taken by Employees as unpaid leave of absence, excluding December 29 and 30, 1993.

This Local Agreement Amending Agreement was ratified by,
The Council of The Corporation of the Town of Picketing on September 27, 1993 (By-law /93)
