A Meettng of Council was held on MONDAY, the TENTH day of NOVE..'1BER, 1958, at
EIGHT o'clock in the evening.

MOVED by Mrs. McPherson, seconded by Mr. Hawthorne, that Minutes of meeting held
November 3, 1958, be adopted. CARRIED
The following 60RRESPONDENCE was read:
1. Oshawa General HosDital requested Township pay $5,101.46, being their claimed
net loss on Township of Pickering indigent patients, October 1, 1957 to ~
September 30, 195R. Referred to Finance Committee.

Canadian Federation of the Blind, Regina, requesting donation.
Notice from DeDartment of His:hways of Ontario that all roads crossing Highway
401 between Liverpool Road and Scarborough Township will be closed except Moore
Road and Rougemount Overhead. Mr. Kinear, D.H.O., advises no roads will be
closed until By-Pass roads built; such roads will be 22' or 24' wide and paved
and it is not knowr if additional land will be required between Liverpool
Road and Dixie Road. Expected work will be completed by December 31, 1959.

requests permission to canvass the Township November 26-27-28 for funds.

The following PERSONS, on MOTION, were heard:
1. Mr. Newth and delegation of about twelve submitted a petition of sixty-one
names requesting Council to declare the Second Concession from Brock Road
to Valley Farm Road a thirty mile per hour speed limit.
Council AGREED to contact D. H. O. and do what is possible and Clerk will
advise Mr. Newth.

Mr. Walker, of Fairport, stated he had built a house on Lot 165, Plan 612,
25 feet plus from street!.line and sideyard 20 feet plus from other street.
Asked for a letter of tolerance.

Mr. Head inquired about tax - Bailiff receipt for registration of a letter
to him and was told that such receipt had not been submitted to Council.
Pat Dunn stated he had been refused permission to dump effluent from septic
tan~s in Oshawa dump, and requested permission to dump same in Township
dump.

Miss HettIe, north of Dunbarton, claimed the tax bailiff had seized her drum
of oil used in their oil stove to pay for her parents' taxes. Reeve advised
her to see our Police Chief, who perhaps would recommend a warrant be sworn
out against the Bailiff.

ô. Nr. Butler, of Proctor and Redfern, discussed Tenders for Sandy Beach Road
Brid~e. He agreed to explain to Council on November 17th why their estimate
of cõst of $9~750.00 and engineering fees were so much lower than any of the
Tenders received.
7. Councillor Stewart stated new Fire Hall doors for Area No.1 would be about
t500.00 to t600.00. Chie~ Lynde expects no other major work needed this year.

MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. ~,gh, that a letter of tolerance be granted
Mr. Walker ~or Lot 165, Plan 612, for location of building on lot. CARRIED
RESOLUTION NUMBER 203
MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. James, that application for grant of Federation
for Blind, Regina, be tabled. CARRIED
RESOLUTION NUMBER 204
MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Stewart, that permission be granted Retarded
Childrens' Society to canvass Township for donations. CARRIED
RESOLUTION NUMBER 205
MOVED by Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, that Fire Chief Lynde be authorizl
to advertise for Tenders for new Fire Hall doors. CARRIED
AGREED salary range for Mr. Thompson's successor, $3,200.00 to $4,800.00.

BY-LAW NUMBER 2351·
Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of
the Township of Pickering concerning the desirability of an eight-inch (8") watermai
alorg East Avenue and Highway No.2, and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. James, moves that By-Law Number 2351 concerning the
desirability of an eight-inch (8") watermain along East Avenue and Highway No.2
be row read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.
Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that the report of the Committee of the
Whole on By-Law Number 2351 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a Third
time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of the
Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED
CLERK'S INSTRUCTIONS
1. Clerk check with D. H. O. re 30 ~ile per hour speed limit on Concession 2, ¡
opposite Lots 19 and 20.
2. Clerk prepare By-Law. to repeal subdivision Control By-Law in Plan 612.
1. Clerk contact Mr. Robson re dumping septic tank effluent in dump. Mr. Robson
recornmerds dump be used for this purpose to regulate better control.
4. Check costs street light price of $91.30 at Rouge Highlands with H.E.P.C.
at Oshawa and Markham.
5. Recommend Street Light Area for Plans 678 and M 5.
6.
Clerk ask Mrs. Harvey if she would be interested in acting as Township
Welfare Administrator.

Clerk forward copies of new Garbage By-Law to Post Offices, all commercial
places, and ratepayers' associations.

Treasurer cancel weed cutting bill for Mrs. Jackson at Squire's Beach as the
lot is used as a ball field.
