PRESENT: William G. Lawson, in the Chair J. Sherman Scott Sidney S. J. Pugh Edgar James Mrs. Jean McPherson Robert L. Stewart L. T. Johnston, Clerk The following CORRESPONDENCE was read: 1. Rou~e Hills Lions Club recommend that the new Park in East Woodlands be called "The Rouge Hill Community Park" and also suggested the Board comprise three names from Lions Club and two from East Woodlands Community Association. 2. The Town of Ajax submitted a copy of their Resolution, in reply to a request of the Township for a joint water supply, stating that they wished to build their own water supply as a Town project only. The following ~ersons, on MOTION, were heard: 1. Messrs. Bauer. Collins. Catton, and four others complained about open run-off from the Shopping Centre septic tanks in Plan 612, from health and odour angle, and about windblown garbage from Shopping Centre. The Reeve stated that the Township Engineers had drawn plans for a proper sewage disposal system at a cost of $90.00 per house per year and that the local Health Department are submitting recommendations this week to temporarily improve,t11.e. c~ndition. Mr. Stephen, of Plan 678, Rouge Highlands, objected to a ditch being dug at rear of his lot. Mr. Scott contact Mr. Childs for a report. 3. Mr. Walters asked that proposed sidewalk on west side of East Avenue be built as near the roadway as possible so as not to disturb his lawn. 4. Wellin~ton Çhester objected to: (a) Builders' trucks filled road ditch in front of his home so that his entrance culvert is plugged. (b) His old barn, now owned by White and Company, is a hangout and dangerous for ohildren. They shoot pigeons. (c) Children steal his apples. Police refuse to prosecute children 14 and under. (d) Claims he is a gardener on five acres and has set traps to catch rodents. 5. Mr. Anderson, of Pickering Beach, asked fo~ information re Beachview Avenue, street lights and brush on road corners. RESOLUTION NUMBER 179 MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Clerk be authorized to request the District Road Engineer for approval for the expenditure of $1,036.00, being the estimated cost of laying 740 feet sidewalk 4 feet wide in the Police Village of Claremont from Sarco Plant south on East side of County Road No.1, such funds to come from the Special Police Village of Claremont 1958 levy. CARRIED RESOLUTION NUMBER 180 MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Equipment Company Limited for a of $ 14,185.50, be accepted. Mrs. McPherson, that the Tender of Federal Pettibone Mulliken Front End Loader at a price QARRIED RESOLUTION N:uMBER 181 MOVE~ by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. James, that be authorized to spend the SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS sale of the Crusher, on new machinery. the ~ownship Road Superintendent ($6,000.00) received from the CARRIED RESOLUTION NUMBER 182 MOVED by Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Scott, that the Township Road Department be instructed to proceed with the construction of a road into Harwood Avenue School at a cost of not more than $654.75. It is understood that the deed for tþis road be given to the Township before construction is commenced. CARRIED BY-LAW NUMBER 2341 Mr. Soott, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to repeal the Supplementary B,y-Law No. 2301 .nd to provide for the 1958 supplementary expenditures on roads in the Township of Pickering in the County of Ontario and that same now be read a first time. Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that By-Law Number 2341 to repeal the Supplementary By-Law No. 2301 and to provide for the 1958 supplementary expen- ditures on roads in the Township of Pickering in the County of Ontario, be now read a seoond time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read. Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. James, moves that the report of the Committee of the Whole on By-Law No. 2341 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIEp BY-LAW NUM~ 2342 Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. James, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to re-locate certain Polling Subdivisions and to amend By-Law Number 2171 and that same now be read a first time. Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that By-Law Number 2342 to re-locate certain Polling Subdivisions and to amend By-Law Number 2171, be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. - - 3 - BY-Law Number 2342 (Continued) The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read. Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that the report of the Committee of the Whole on By-Law Number 2342 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of the Corporation be arrixed thereto. CARRIEij BY -LAW NUMBER 2343 Mrs. McPherson, seconded by Mr. Stewart, moves ror leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township or Pickering to derine a ~lice Village within the meaning or the Assessment Act ror the assessing or telephone and telegraph Companies, and that same now be read a first time. Mrs. MCPherson, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that By-Law Number 2343 to define a ~lice Village withing the meaning or the Assessment act ror the assessing or telephone and telegraph companies be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read. Mrs. McPherson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves the Whole on By-Law Number 2343 be adopted, a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and the Corporation be affixed thereto. that the report of the Committee of and that the said By-Law be now read Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of CARRIED BY-LAW NUMBER 2344 Mr. James, seconded by Mr. Stewart moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to authorize the purchase of three and one half (3!) acres in East Woodlands ror a Park under the Township or Pickering Recreation COmmitte,. and to appoint certain members to sit on a Board to administer, and that same now be read a first time. Mr. James, seconded by Mrs. McPherson moves that By-Law Number 2344 to authorize the purchase of three and one half (3!) acres in East Woodlands for a Park under the Township of Pickering Recretarion Committee, and to appoint certain members tc sit on a Board to administer, be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read. Mr. James, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that the report of the Committee of the Whole on ~-Law No. 2344 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED Mr. Scctt gave notice that at next meeting he would move that a qualiried engineer be hired by the Township to prepare plans for water sewer subdivisions and Some road problems. Mr. James reported on Central Ontario Conservation Authority meeting. Good group. Budget for balance 1958, $1,000.00. Township share, $25.00. CLERK'S ,INSTRUCTIONS 1.
