HomeMy WebLinkAboutAugust 7, 1958 MUNICIPAL BUILDING BROUGHAM An Emergent Meeting of Council was held on THURSDAJ the ~EVENTH day of AUGUST, 1958, at EIGHT o'clock in the evening. PRESENT: J. Sherman Soott, in the Chair William G. Lawson Sidney S. J. Pugh Mrs. Jean McPherson Edgar J &me s H. Ross Hawthorne Robert L. Stewart H. S. Pearce, Deputy Clerk Also present were Mr. Wells Ritchie of the Township of Pickering Planning Board and Mr. Wallace Little of Project Planning Associates. This Meeting of Council was called for the special purpose of studying and disoussing the South Piokering Zoning By-Law Number 2326. 1. , Mr. Wallace Little began by giving a resume on zoning theory, purposes and procedures. In reply to questions by Council concerning the zoning of specific areas, Mr. Little explained the thinking behind the placing of these areas in their respective categories. He stressed that B,r-Law Number 2326 in its present state might be called a "freezing"Þy-law, which allowed Council to retain control while work- ing out future zoning action. It was felt by Council that this whole zoning problem was a very difficult one, and that further familiarity with all its aspects was most desirable. To this end, Mr. Little sugge.ted: (1) (2) Literature on the subject. Other speakers from his own firm and from the Department of Planning and Deve lopment . I Films. (3) He also suggested that after making use of the above, it might be advis- able for Council and Planning Associates to make a joint tour and in- spection of the whel. area. After this, the public meetings to acquaint the ratepayers could be held. 2. In the light of the zoning discussion, and after most serious and con- scientious consideration, Council AGREED that the Resolution permitting Mrs. Peggy England's property, Lot 131, Dunbarton Gardens, to be used for manufacture of silver and brass churoh ornaments, could NOT be approved. 3. MOVED by Mr. Scott, seoonded by Mr. Stewart, that the Township of Piokering do the following work in connection with the Old Post Cemetery located i~ Lot 19, ~oncession 1, at the south west corner of Brock Road and Hichway No.2: (1) Cut weeds and grass. (2) Repair or replace fences as required, to put in proper condition. CARRIED INSTRUCTIONS TO CLERK 1. Have new clock installed in Council Chambers. On MOTION by Mr. Stewart, the Meeting adjourned.
