Lawson, in the Chair J. Sherman Scott Sidney S. J. Pugh Edgar James H. Ross Hawthorne ý. T. Johnston, Clerk MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr ~ ,Pugh, that Minutes of Meeting held April 1, 1958, be adopted. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. James, seconded by Mr. Scott, that Minutes of Meeting held April 8, 1958, be adopted. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. James, that Minutes of Meeting held April 14, 1958, be adopted. CARRIED The following CORRESPONDENCE was read: 1. Mrs. Burton, of Brougham Women's Institute, asked what amount of money the Council would pay towards operating expenses of Township Hall if a Recreation Committee took over. 2, Maurice Kin~, of Sutton, submitted a tender of $6,000.00 for our gravel crusher. 3. W. H. Ellicott submitted his resignation as Caretaker of Municipal Buildings as of April 30, 1958. 4. Road DeDartment, Adding Machine tenders: 1957 Burrows 1957 National $ 296.25 341.25 5. County Brucellosis canvass completed: County percent in favour 84.3 Pickering Township percent in favour 84. ß. SUDreme Court Justices AYlesworth. LeBel and Morden submitted reasons for dismissing our appeal, Greenwood Greenbelt vs. Godfrey Gravel Pit. The taking of gravel from a pit is not a commercial use, etc. 7. Riverside Rateuavers' Association (a) Request that either Mr. Hooker or Mr. Crighton be appointed to Conservatio Authority. (b) That the ox-bow at ADY Camp be closed off forthwith. 8. Our Police DeDartment recommended a "Stop" sign on East Avenue south of Ridgewood Drive. 9. Oshawa Hosuital again asked payment of indigent hospitalization, $1,086.47. 10. County En~ineer asked for approval to do certain work on each side of proposed bridge on Bay Road beyond the 100 foot County road limit, at a cost of $ 1,110.00. 11. Lori B. Motors asked for a body and fender license for Skidmore property, Concession Broken Front, Range 3, Lot 31. As Mr. Thompson has not had a chance to investigate and report, it was held over until next meeting. ~- r ~ - 2 - 12. S. S. J. Pu,h submitted his resignation as member of the Metro Tor-onto Conservation Authority. The following PERSONS, on MOTION, were heard: 1. Messrs. Reeve Daniels nd Councillor Wa , of Stouffville, asked that the Fire Agreement be changed from 60.00 for first two hours and $24.00 per hour therea~ter to $68.00 for first hour and $32.00 per hour thereafter, owing to additional operation costs. 2. Mr. Steuhen NYlas, who is living in a double garage on Lot 64, Plan 342, had been asked to vaoate immediately by Mr. Thompson. Clerk get full particulars and advise Council. Mr. Nylas, Box 271, Pickering. Phone 484 J. 3. Mr. Maurice Kin~ stated if he were successful in getting crusher he would pay cash and pick up the crusher April 23rd. 4. Mrs. Wheeler stated they gave swimming lessons to 17 Pickering Township residents last year, nine from Ajax, four from Whitby Town, and one other, and expected five more this year. They raised $800.00 last year, employed two guards, and always had a nurse on hand. Mrs. Wheeler asked for a Fifty Dollar grant. , RESOLUTION NUMBER 60 MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Hawthorne, S. J. Pugh from the Metro Toronto Conservation daté. that the resignation of ,Sidney Authority be accepted as of this CARRIED RESOLUTION NUMBER 6l MOVED by Mr. James, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that we inform the Brougham Group interested in operating the Township Hall according to the Communities Centres Act, be given a grant of One Hundred Dollars per annum for the privilege of usiDg the Hall at any time, with a week's notice. CARRIED RESOLUTION NUMBER 61 MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. James, that the Fire Agreement with the Village of Stouffville be changed from $60.00 for first two hours, plus $24.00 per hour thereafter, to $~8.00 for the first hour and $~2.00 per hour thereafter. CARRIED RESOLUTION NUMBER 62 MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. James, that Mr. King's tender of $6,000.00 for gravel crushing plant, powered by a ~eneral Motors diesel unit and steel bin, be accepted as is, subject to approval o~ the Department of Highways. CARRIED RESOLUTION NUMBER 63 MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. James, that Council give a $50.00 grant to the Crippled Children's Swimming Class. CARRIED RESOLUTION NUMBER 64 MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seoonded by Mr. Scott, that the resignation of Mr. Ellicott as Municipal Caretaker, be accepted, and Clerk write letter of thanks for services. CARRIED RESOLUTION NUMBER 65 MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Hawthorne, that Council authorize the purchase of the 1957 Burrows Adding Machine at $296.25, for Road Department, CARRIED subject to approval of the Department of Highways. RESOLUTION NUMBER 66 MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Council agree that County Engineer proceed with following work at proposed Bay Road bridge beyond the 100 feet over which the County have jurisdiction: Material for side fill, 1500 cu. yds. @ 50¢ Granual Base Material, 300 cu. yds. @ 70¢ Replacement of 200 feet of guard rail @ 25¢ Ditching and Misoellaneous Improvement Total (At Pickering Township Expense), $ 750.00 210.00 50.00 100.00 $ 1,110.00 CARRIED - 3 - RESOLUTION NUMBER 67 MOVED by Mr. James, seconded by Mr. Hawthorne, that roads be taken over in Pascoe subdivision in Brougham by the TOWT<ship when Mr. Slack satisfied as to drainage. CARRIED RESOLUTION NUMBER 68 MOVED by Mr. James, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Council grant the Ajax-Pickering General Hospital $7,500.00, payable monthly, commencing July 1st next. CARRIED AGREED that Road Department erect a "Stop" sign on East Avenue south of juncture of Ridgewood Road. gr- AGREED that Council meet applicants for office position at 9 P. M. April 28th. BY-LAW NUMBER 2314 Mr. Hawthorne, seconded by Mr. James, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to appoint a member to the Metro Toronto Conservation Authority to replace Sidney S. J. Pugh, who has resigned, and that same now be read a first time. Mr. Hawthorne, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that By-Law Number 2314 to appoint a member to the Metro Toronto Conservation Authority to replace Sidney S. J. Pugh, who'has resigned, be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read. Mr. Hawthorne, seconded by Mr. James, moves the Whole on By-Law Number 2314 be adopted, a third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and of the Corporation be affixed thereto. that the report of the Committee of and that the said B,y-Law be now read Clerk sign the same, and the Seal CARRIED BY-LAW NUMBER 2315 Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Hawthorne, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to take over Southview Road in Plan 469 as a Township road, and that same now be read a first time. Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. James, moves that By-Law Number 2315 to take over Southview Road in Plan 469;-8S a Township road, be now read a second time, and that . Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read. Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Hawthorne, moves that the report of the Committee of the Whole on By-Law Number 2315 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now rea~ a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED CLERK'S INSTRUCTIONS 1. Clerk get cost of pro~osed road to proposed Brougham Sohool and find out ownership of road. ($444.26, plus school entrance culvert, $72.00, and Mr. Vyvian will deed land to Township). 2. Ask Mr. Thompson to take action on (1) old lumber, etc., north of Brougham, and Mr. Wilcox' wreoking yard and home place of business, and have any private stgns removed l'rom roads. ./ 3. Contact Health Unit about inspection for Rest Homes. 4. Correct letter to Lion's Club in that they would make Park with Recreation Committee.
