PRESENT: William G. lawson J. Sherman Soott Sidne1 S. J. Pup Edgar James Mrs. Jean MoPherson H. Ross Hawthorne L. T. Johnston, Clerk The following CORRESPONDENCE was read: 1. Dr. MacBean submitted a letter setting out duties of the Sanitary Inspeotor v insofar as septic tanks are oonoerned. 2. Our Solicito~ advises that our appeal against Mr. Godfrey re his taking v gravel from the Greenwood Greenbelt has failed. He is contaoting Mr. Dubin as to what aotion now should be taken. 3. Our Solicitor forwarded completed agreement between Township and A. M. ~ Realty Company for lease of part of road allowanoe in north half of Lot 34, Broken Front, Range 2. The following PE¿ßSONS, on MOTION, were heard: 1. Mr. Ted Smith, of Projeot Planners, submitted plans and water drainage for Shopping Centre, 40 rods west of Pickering Township on north side Of Highway 2. As the drainage of the area runs through Township Lots 34 and 35, Broken Front Range 2, he considered present oulvert on East Avenue suffioient for the additional run-off, but agreed to instal a new larger culvert on East Avenue. Reeve Lawson directed him to work out details with Mr. Godson. .¡ 2. Mr. Funston, of'Miokie Cleaners in Rouge Hills, asked that cleaning firms from other municipalities be licensed. 3. Mr. Vill.neau, of White's Road, stated that Mitchell culvert too small for spring flood and two private oulverts on west side of White's Road too small or plugged, whioh toroes water over Township road. AGREED Mr. Godson investigate. 4. Austin Pearqe, Chairman School Seotion No. 10, stated they are purohasing a three acre sohool site opposite present school and asked Township to build a 350 foot road to it. Mr. Godson inspect and report cost of a road. The present owner to supply deed of such road allowance to Township. 5. Mr. Norman Hall asked if Council intended to carry the Godfrey gravel case further. Advised Counoil awaiting adviøe of Counsel. Thompson's salary be increased to $4,000.00 per annum retroactive to January 1, 1958. CARRIED - 2 - lESOL1JTION NUMBER 59 [OVEn by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that: mEREAS the Township of Pickering Building By-Law Number 2223 requires that ~he Building Inspeotor shall issue oocupancy permits; ~D WHEREAS it is most important that all health regulations have been complied rith before such occupancy permits are issued; JE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the South Ontario County Health Unit inspect ~llnew houses and old houses at the request of the Building Inspector and Lšsue a Certifioate of Approval before the Building I~speotor issues such )coupancy permits. Hawthorne, seoonded by Mr. Scott, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law ~f the Township of Pickering to require all persons building a house to obtain rrom the Township Engineer a level to which such house must be built, and that same now be read a first time. ~r. Pugh, seconded by Mr. James, moves for leave to introduce a B7-Law of the township-of Pickering to prohibit the running at large of dogs within the rownship of Pickering, to appoint a dog catcher, to establish a Dog Pound and reKUlations required in conneotion therewith, and to repeal By-Law N~ber 2009, and that same now be read a first time. ¡ ~r. Mr. Hawthorne, seconded by Mr. James, moves that By-Law Number 2309 to assess the Municipality of the Township of Pickering, including the Police Village of v Claremont, for a general Public School rate to provide funds for the Township Statutory Grants to Public Schools in the year 1958, be now read a second time and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. .
