PRESENT: William G. Lawson J. Sherman Scott Sidney S.J. Pugh Edgar R. James J.S. Chapman Glenn Julian Robert L. Stewart L.T. Johnston, Clerk The Following CORRESPONDENCE was read 1. Police Rines. December 1956 - $ 40.55 2. Denartment of Plannin¡, asking Council to renew 14 subscriptions to " ONTARIO PLANNING" at $1.00 each. 3. Crusader Develonment Company , Ajax, advising that their Engineer will oheck location of 200 trees planted on Pickering Beach Road and then they will advise about removing same. John Hamer of South Ontario Federation of Agriculture stating that the Townships of Whitby - Uxbrid~e and Scugog all levy t mill for fees , East Whitby and Reach levy 1/5 mill. 4. -- 5. Ontario Municinal Association notice that 1957 membership is 35,6U , Ontario Association of Rural Municipalities that 1957 membership is looð Messrs. Ross Knox and Frank Carter representing Brougham Fire Brigade stated that they needed new equipment. That they are starting to pay their firemen, that two of them had attended 19 meetings of School of Instruction at Oshawa and they are now operating a local School of Instruction so that. 60.00 per fire is not adequate. They asked for an additional stand by remuneration of $ 500.00 - Council will consider. Agreed - Owners in Montgomery Park pay 100 % of cost of road improvement. That cost be ~ased on frontage and perhaps spread over a 5 year period and that Deputy Reeve contact Engineer to try and get $ 4,000.00 cost lessened. Moved by Mr. Soott and seconded by Mr. James, that a large 20 lb. fire extinguisher be purchased for garage at price of $ 92.00 and that small $18.65 extinguisher be purchated for each truck, including garbage truck. ð......:·.-...< Moved by Mr. Pugh and seconded by Mr. Julian that each member of Council and Planning Board ~supplied with a copy of " ONTARIO PLANNING" at price of . 1.0 each. ~_...~ Moved by Mr. Scott and Seconded by Mr. Pugh that 1957 membership be taken out for The Ontario Association of Rural Municipalities at $10.00 and Ontario Municipal Association for . 35.00. a -.- 1..6".£ Moved aby Mr. Scott and Seconded by Mr. Chapman that Allan Carlton be foremen of the Garbage Department at $1.25 per hour, that he be responsible for maintenance of Truck, direct the men and Afeep all time sheets and that he . secure a telephone. ¿?~ Mr. James reported DOÆ Pound erected, floor almost finished, needed more kennel with considerable work on present kennels as they are in bad state of repair. Needed another load of gravel. It was agreed that Dog Catcher should do some patroling chiefly around schools. - 2 - Agreed that a guard rail should be erected in Rosebank east, where narrow private street joins new Township Road from South. Moved by Mr. Chanman and Seconded by Mr. Scott that Mrs. Frances Barker be employed as Typist at salary of $2,200.00 per year with 3 months probation period. -c -.,..~< ,I .. BY- LAW NUMBER 2211 Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township pf Pickering to appoint two members to the Rouge, Duffin, Highland and Petticoat Conservation Authority, and that same now be read a first time. Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. James, moves that ,By-Law Number 2211 to appoint two members to the Rouge,Duffin, Highland and Petticoat conservation AuthGity be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole theron. The Committee aof the Whole arises and reports the B)-Law as read. Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Stewart, moves that the report of the Committee of the Whole Qn By-Law Number 2211 be adopted and that the said By-Law be .. read a Third a time and PASSRD; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of the Corporation be affixed therto. CARRIED Moved by Mr. Scott, Seconded by Mr. Julian, that the 1957 Township of Pickeri Industrial Committee comprise the following named persons, W.H.J. Thompson, E. Nerlick, J. Pigott, R.H.J. Clerke, W. G. Newman. CARRIED ~ a-~.,~ CLERK'S INSTRUCTIONS / 1. Employ Mr. Runions of Harwood Drive with truck and 2 men to pick up garbage for 2 days so that route will get caught up. -- 2. Confirm to Bud Rowell that Garbage truck be serviced by him and kept in good general repair and council will pay 37¢ per gallon for grade 2 gasoline. )3. Ask Police Chief and A. J. Thompson if in their opinion licensing bicycles at 25¢ each would be of any police value, and by whom license would be sold. I( > 4. Arrange meeting of Councillors Stewart and Chapman with Ajac Council at 7.30 P.M. January 28th, 1957 to ~.cuss fire protection on Harwood Drive. Arranged. / 5.
