HomeMy WebLinkAboutAugust 8, 1955 .-- ~ MUNICIPAL BUILDING BROUGHAM An EMERGENT meeting of Council was held on MONDAY, the EIGHTH day of AUGUST, ~955, commencing at 8 P.M. PRESENT: Deputy-Reeve William G. Newman, in the Chair. Councillor Sidney S. Pugh Councillor J. Sherman Scott IN ATTENDANCE: Lloyd T. Johnston, Brian Ruddy Douglas J. Plitz ,The following PERSONS were heard:- 1.a. Mr. G.R.R.Frame, on behalf of Mrs. Edythe Soden, claiming that Township Road Department has failed to live up to the agreement in that: (i) (ii) (iii) (iv) (v) (vi) One extra acre over-run and rutted by heavy equipment. Sub-soil dumped from pit on to her lands. Broken gate post into Mrs. Soden's field stump thrown on to her property. Fence not built Parking of vehicles and stores on her property. l.b. Mr. Frame objeoted to wording of supplementary 1955 Assessment and Tax Roll No.868 G. LaHaye. 2. Robert Watson asked if tenders were to be called for garbage collection. He believed he could do it for $9.00 to $10.00 per house. Agreed would have chance to tender. 3. Mr. F.J.Sm1th of Squire's Beach Ratepayers' Association wanted (1) (ii) (iii) (iv) Copies of correspondence with ottawa re Highland Creek Sand & Gravel co,Ltd. Trucks to comform to Class "B" ratings - limit 22,000 Ibs 30 Mile speed limit. stop sign at Lakeview Road and Range Line. 4. Mr. Brian Ruddy discussed report of Mr.Redfern on West Rouge water system progress. The following CORRESPONDENCE was read: 1. Scarborough Public utilities Commission, advising they will supply with water six only houses on Pickering side of Townline, and the local improvement frontage charge will be $2.00 per foot for each water service requested. 2. Mr. R. B. Wells, advising that the roof of the Police Station is leaking because of the radio tower installed, for which he accepts no liability. MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that the services of Venchiarut1 and Venchiarutti as Planning Consultants to the Township be terminated as of September 13th 1955. Page No.2 MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, as Townsbip of Pickering By-law No.2099 passed June 27tb, 1955, wbereby certain lands were excbanged by Scbool Section Union 4 West and School Section Number Two, is not acceptable to tbe Department of Education due to the By-law being passed a montb late; WE, the COUNCIL, of the Township of Pickering agree to remit to tbe Village of Pickering an amount of money equal to tbe S.S. Union 4 West Public School 1956 tax rate on the assessment of tbe nortb part of south half of Lot 17 in Concession One north of the south limit of the C.N.R. right-ot-way, and allot Lot 18, Concession One between the south limit of the C.N.R. right- of-way and No. 2 Highway, PROVIDING tbe COUNCIL of the VILLAGE OF PIC1ŒRING, or the Trustees ot School Section Union 4 West raise no objection to the transfer of the said lands on December 25th, 1956. CARRIED. CLERK'SINSTRUCTIONS:- 1. Advise R. Frame when action has commenced at Soden gravel pit by Road Ðept . 2. write County Assessor and T.M.Moore for legal opinion on Supplementary Assessment forms. 3. A.J.Tbompson - garbage Con.2 Lot 19-20. 4. Send copies telegram and letters Department or Public Works re Highland Creek Sand & Gravel co,Ltd, to F.J.Smith. 5. Write Hifhland Creek sand & Gravel co,Ltd, that immediate roads are Class"B roads on which limit gross capacity is 2Z,000 Ibs, and that Council cannot permit a repetition ot last Spring's roads this coming year. 6. Write Scarborough Public Utilities Commission asking for clarification of $2.00 per toot trontage for water on all trontages under local improvement. 1. Advise Proctor, Redfern and Laughlin that Council seriously contemplate meters on the West Rouge water system, and ask their advice as to a possible necessary charge per 1000 gallons. Deputy-Reeve Wm.G.Newman will be away from August 11th to 17th. Next meeting will be held on August 29th, or before, it tenders ready in connection with W.Rouge water.
