HomeMy WebLinkAboutMarch 28, 1955 M U N I C I PAL B U I L DIN G BROUGHAM An Emergent Meeting of Council was held on MONDAY, the TWENTY-EIGHTH day of MARCH, 1955, at EIGHT o'clook in the evening. PRESENT: George T. Todd, in the Chair William G. Newman William G. Lawson Sidney S. Pugh J. Sherman Scott L. T. Johnston The following PERSONS, on MOTION, were heard: l. Stan. Fairbairn asked for a Hall License to hold dances in his barn. Council to investigate. 2. J. T. Des Brisay stated his olient Mr. Smiglioki had purohased Lot 68, Plan 350, was living in a garage, had been given two weeks to vacate, and asked that his olient be granted a stay of two ~onths, and that he would endeavour to get him new quarters as soon as possible. Council agreed that they did not want to put him out in the winter, so asked Mr. DesBrisay to get him out as soon as possible. 3. Mr. T. M. Moore presented a draf't agreement between Chester Hill Developments Limited and the Township regarding aooeptance of their Plan. Mr. DesBrisay aoted for Chester Hill Developments Ltd. The following CORRESPONDENCE was read: l. DeDartment of MuniciDal Affairs, advising of new grants to be paid shortly: Municipal.........······ Elementary Schools ...... $ 7,778.25 6.432.00 $14,210.25 2. Pickerin~ Polioe Commission. Approval of Police Budget, $ 47,347.90. 3. Donald W. Saunders - request for refund of $ 7.65, 1954 taxes, as his home burned June, 1954. MOVED by Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that a grant or $ 30.00 be made to Brooklin Spring Fair for the year 1955. MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Chesterhill Developments Limited and Council, be approved, subjeot to the that the Reeve and Clerk be directed Engineer's and Solicitor's approval. Soott, that the Agreement between this Corporation, as presented to Township Engineer's approval, and to sign the same after the Township CARRIED I ). \,r '\ ~.., I\~~ l I t I I I I I I MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Newman, that Donald W. Saunders or Audley be ,given a refund of $ 7.65 on 1954 taxes, as his house, assessed at $ 375.00, was burned in June, 1954. CARRIED CLERK'S INSTRUCTIONS 1. Get copy of East Whitby By-Law re shooting groundhogs. 2. Get rate for flankage on lot for water from Redfern. 3. Have Redf'ern give cost of water service to south side Crescent Drive. < BY-LAW NUMBER 2082 Mr. Newman, seoonded by Mr. Scott, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to provide for the total 1955 expenditure on roads ,in the Township of Pickering, and that same now be read a first time. Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that By-Law Number 2082 to provide for the total 1955 expenditure on roads in the Township of Pickering, be now read a seoond time, and that Counoil go into Committee or the Whole thereon. - 2 - The Committee of the Whole on By-Law Number 2082 arises and reports the By-Law as read. Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that the Report of the Committee or the Whole on By-Law Number 2082 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and that the Seal or the Corporation be arrixed thereto. Todd, Pugh, Newman BY-LAW NUMB~R 2083 NAY: Mr. Scott · Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Scott, m~ves ror leave to introduce a By-Law or the Township or Pickering to provide for a supplementary 1955 expenditure on roads in the Township or Piokering, and that same now be read a first time. Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that By-Law Number 2083 to provide for a supplementary 1955 expenditure on roads in the Township or Pickering be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee or the Whole thereon. The Committee or the Whole arises and report the By-Law as read. Mr. Newman, seoonded by Mr. Pugh, moves that the report of the Committee or the Whole on By-Law Number 2083 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and that the Seal of the Corporation be afrixed thereto.
