DeDartment of Plannin~ acknowledge receipt of Clerk's letter requesting
that subdivision plans be not forwarded to local School Boards until
approved by Council. The Department claim they are required to forward
plans, on receipt, to Department of Education who in turn forward them
to local School Boards.

Metro $urvey shows Metro Area ap-artment house vacancies have increased
from 2.93% in June 1958 to 4.69% in June 1959. Normal vacancy 5%.

setbacks from Township Boundary Line and has asked Ajax solicitor to
amend.

·1. ~s. Ethel Hull and delegation or seven from East Woódlands area stated
they had a domestic water problem and asked Council to consider a
Municipal water system to serve their area. The Reeve pointed out
costs involved and inability of many to pay and a%reed that a petition
or owners in immediate area and south be submitted to Council when it
would be given further consideration.
(2) The delegation complained about lack of Police protection in
their area.

Dr. Edmonds asked Council to endorse the brief presented Council by
Dr. Theal on C. N. R. by-pass. He stated they proposed to present
their brief to the C. N. R. in early September. (See Resolution)
Mr. Borland and delegation of three from Riverside claimed that gravel
companies had taken all the water from their creek so that now their
wells were dry. The Reeve pointed out that the Ontario Water Resources
Ce.-dssion had investigated Pit Run Company and Cooper Block Company
USing the water and that they were reasonably satisfied with their
operations so that their only recourse would be to take civil action
against such companies.
Hr. J~es Moore asked Council if he could prooeed with his proposed
~rina at Fairport. (See Resolution)
Mrs. G. Crichton of Riv~rsideexpressed opinion that parks should not
be required to wait two years for telephone service.
Road Suuerintendent Jack ChaDman gave a report on his year's road
programme stating that he appeared to òe within his budget· paving
would start August 17th starting with (1) Concession 4; (2) Valley
farm Road and Li~erpool Road; (3) Whitevale; then asphalt spray on
Altona Road, Uxbridge Town Line and Island Road.

MOVED by Mr. Ashton, seconded by Miss Swan, that if Mr. Moore's Marina
installation is ~eclared a service station, that he will be granted a

MOVED by Mr. Ashton, seconded by Miss Swan, that a letter be sent to
the Conservation Authority through our representative that any warning
system for flood should be adequate or Civil Defence or some other authority
should be responsible for disaster warnings. CARRIED

compensation should be made for any deleterious effects to anyone in

Sinoe the present proposed route of the Canadian National Railways
through Pickering Township will have disastrous econo.1c and social
erfects on the area through which it will pass and on the township
at large
and since this council by resolution 196 has formally opposed
the proposed route through the Township of Pickering
and since this council by resolution '114 has formally requested
a Royal Commission investigation into the economic effects or the
CNR by-pass on the areas through which it will pass
and since the Area #2 school board has formally protested the
proposed route through ~he township of Pickering since it will
seriously effect at least two schools and the high school

Resolution No. 231 (draft CODY) continued.
Therefore be it resolved that this council formally requests the
Metropolitan Toronto Planning Board and the canadian National Railways
to select a route which will Dot go through the Township of
Pickering or to adopt the proposal of the Southwest Pickering
Ratepayers Association that the CNR and CPR share right-of-way
or run parallel through the Township
And furthermore be it resolved that this council requests, if
any other route Is constructed through the Township that the
~ownship, the Boards of Education and the individual property
o~ers residing within a quarter of a mile of either
s14. of the right-of-way be fully compensated for all damage,
taoluding loss of property value,
And 1"urthermore since constant delay on settlin/!' this issue is
causing serious hardship for residents of this'township
be it resolved that this matter be given immediate attention by
all o1"1"icials concerned

And 1"urthermore be it resolved that a copy of this resolution and
other pertinent resolutions be 1"orwarded to the Executive Vice-President
of the Canadian National Railways, the Chairman of the Metropolitan
Toronto Planning Board, the Prime Minister of Canada and
the öenorable Mr. George Hees.

Reeve Scott stated Police C..-ission had approved the purchase 01" a
rescue boat 1"or Police Department.
MOVED by Mr. S~ang, seconded by Mr. James, that the report of accounts in
the amount of $299.08, as presented by the LIVESTOCK COMMITTEE, be
