An Emergent Meeting of Council was held on MONDAY the TWENTY-SIXTH day
of July, 1954, at EIGHT o'clock in the evening.

The following CORRESPONDENCE was read:

F. B. Anderson complained about Mr. Avis burning refuse from his park
each Monday morning close to his home - objected to smoke and smell.
Council directed the Clerk to write Mr. Avis. Later Mr. Balsdon agreed
to see Mr. Avis.
2.
Ontario County Co-Operative Medical Services, recommending our group
subscribe to their WCatastrophe Fund" which they have set up. This
fund is One· Dollar for single and Two Dollars for family per year, to
assist in paying bills over the present limits of their policy.
Council agreed. '
Township of Crowland submitted a resolution for endorsement that would
ask the Dominion Government to drop the American participation in the
St. Lawrence Waterway. No action.
South Pickerin£ Police report that on investigation they find:
(1) Two cabins at Sunset Inn - have been unoccupied for some time.
(2) Trailer north of Ajax blinker light unoccupied and for sale.
(3) Trailer, Old Post Inn. No occupants.
(4) Trailer at Linders, Harwood Drive. None. Will check on Junk Yard.
(5) Have laid a charge against G. A. Schwab in Pickering Beach, for
living in new condemned shack.
(6) Mason family on Altona Road are moving immediately.
Roy Keith and Art. Carlton would look after Dump two days a week.
Department of Municipal Affairs, advising of short course in Municipal
Affairs, September 13th to 16th, at University of Toronto.
Proposal of.Venchiarutti and Venchiarutti, Architects, to zone Pickering
Township.
T. M. Moore, gave opinion that Garbage collection could be levied on
taxes in area on fee basis under Chapter 243, Section 496.
Several park owners asked that Garbage Dump be opened on Mondays, as they
could not keep garbage until Wednesday.
Agreed Road Superintendent remove stumps from property of S. Lewchuck,
Concession 1, Lot 29.

(c) W. A. Orr, Deputy-Minister of Municipal Affairs - acknowledgment.

18. L. S. Beattie for Deputy-Minister of Education, advising that he is
withholding approval of our By-Law No. 2021, providing for School
Area No.2.
19. Agreed that Council has no authority to permit or refuse parachute
jumps.
The following PERSONS, on MOTION, were heard:

Mr. Grills and Mr. Kelly of Fairport Beach Ratepayers' Association,
discussed roads and sale of refreshments in Community Hall.
Lorne Tran, of Audley, complained about Collector using Bailiff
to collect his taxes and charges of $ 19.40.
Pickerin~ Village Council members and Clerk - re adjustment of costs
of evaluating Township property, and fees of G. Riehl - bonding roads,
etc.

Deputy-Reeve Balsdon reported that Mr. Ryckman, in Plan 346 would permit
surface water from Old Forest Road to be taken through to his lands if
first one hundred feet were laid with tile and that he would get a letter
to this effect.
MOVED by Mr. Michell, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, that the costs of evaluating
Township property and services of Mr. Riehl in making adjustments between
Pickering Township and Village be shared, one-third Pickering Village and
two-thirds, Pickering Township. CARRIED

AGREED that all boundary roads between Pickering Township and Pickering
Village be built and maintained on a 50-50 basis: That the Township will
do necessary grading on this basis but other work shall be approved by
each Road Department.
