An Emergent Meeting of Council was held on MONDAY, the TWENTY-EIGHTH
day of JUNE, 1954, at EIGHT o'clock in the evening.
PRESENT: George T. Todd, in the Chair

The following DELEGATIONS were heard:
1. R. Church and others of Squire's Beach, stated that the Improvement
District of Ajax, when grading ,the sideline between Lots 14 and 15,
Broken Front, Range 2, changed the watercourse so that the water
now goes south to H. P. Crook's store, then west, and lies there.
The Deputation was advised that this Township had contacted Ajax and
asked that the water be taken to a proper outlet.
The Delegation asked that private road between Pegg and Minshul
property be taken over by the Township. Council agreed that this
road could be brought up to standard for $ 250.00, and the Delegation
agreed to advise the Township of their wishes in this regard.
Alex. Waters, in Hough subdivision, discussed the proposed new school
in School Section No. 2 and wanted a four-roomed school rather than
a two-roomed school.

Mrs. Jean McPherson objected to the location of new proposed School
in School Section No.2,
Messrs. McKay and Miller, of School Section 2 Board, discµssed school
site of School Section 2 and objected to the School Area.

Edward Bennett, in Hough subdivision, objected to private culverts in
his area. He was advised that they were responsible for the culverts
and to discuss the matter with Mr. Hough.
An" application for a Kennel License was presented for Mr. R. Scott
on uld Forest Road. A petition of seven names supported the appli-
cation. Council to investigate.

Mr. Ferguson submitted prices to stucco and paint Municipal Building:
Paint ....... $ 247.00
Stucco ...... 509.76
MOVED byMr-. Newman, seconded by ~œ. Lawson, that Mr. Ferguson be
given the contract to paint and stucco Municipal Building at
, 756.76, tha~ the work be guaranteed for five years, completed in
two months, and No. 1 paint to be used.
g. Messrs. Stewart J. B. White~ Mr. Whittaker and Mr. Rundle presented
0'<' a brief outliniig their proposed subdivision in Concession 6, Lot 20,
and asked for approval in principle of their plan, and co-operation
of Council.
MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, that the Clerk advise
Mr. Rundle that the Council of the Township of Pickering are prepared
to approve in principle the development of 191 acres in ,Lots 19 and 20,
Concession 6, Township of Pickering, as "residentialland"s, and
strongly recommend that Industry be attracted to the Municipality, and
that the Township of Pickering will co-operate to further the aims as
outlined in the proposal as submitted to them." CARRIED

W. G. Newman reported that he had made inquiries re a Kennel License
for Mr. Flannigan, Concession 1, Lot 5, and would recommend a License.
AGREED
AGREED that Reeve, Deputy Reeve and Mr. Michell meet Central Mortgage
and Housing at Ajax at 9 A. M. July 2, 1954.
The following CORRESPONDENCE was read:

G. F. Cannon, Deputy-Minister of Education, wrote requ~r~ng resol-
ution of Pickering Village Council to release part of School Section
No. 4 West to School Area No.2, under By-Law No. 2014.
Copy Minutes from Secretary School Section 2 re purchase school site.
CQPY letter to Honourable Mr. Dunlop, Minister of Education, re
petition of School Section No. 18, objecting to School Area No.2.
Central Mort~age and Housing requested Council to meet them at
their office in Ajax July 2 at 9 A. M.
Clerk, Village of Pickering, advising of the following motion passed
by the Village Council on Wednesday, the 23rd day of June, 1954:
"MOVED by Mr. Me.ser, seconded by Mr. Bray, that we
agree that the Sl of Lots 19, 20 and 21, and the Så of
the Elot Lot 22 in the Second Concession of the Township
of Pickering be included in Pickering Township School
Area No.2, provided that Lot 18 from the south limit
of the Canadian National Railway to Highway No. 2 in
First Concession be included in Union School Section
No. 4 West. CARRIED"

6. Reginald Scott, asking for a Kennel License in Plan 346 to train
dogs for use of blind people.
Mr. Michell to investigate.
7. Mr. Hi~by, owner of a lot east of A. E. Calvert, Concession 2,
Lot 17, asked for a Kennel License.
MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, that
wH~~AS representations have been made by Members of the Ajax and
Pickering General Hospital Board for assistance in meeting" their
capital debt, be it resolved that we investigatß ways and means for
making a grant to cover the outstanding capital debt of the said
Ajax and Pickering General Hospital. CARRIED
BY-LAW NUMBER 2021
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Newman, moves for leave to introduce a By-
Law of the Township of Pickering setting apart a Township School Area
of the Township of Pickering School Area Number 2, and that same now
be read a first time.
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Newman, moves that By-Law Number 2021 setting
apart a Township School Area of the Township of Pickering School Area
Number 2, be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee
of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole then arose and reported.
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Newman, moves that the report of the Committee
of the Whole on By-Law No. 2021 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be
now read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same,
and that the Seal of the Corporation be affixe~ thereto. CARRIED
On MOTION of Mr. Balsdon, the meeting adjourned.
