HomeMy WebLinkAboutApril 13, 1954 MUNICIPAL BUILDING BROUGHAM An Emergent Meeting of the Council of the Township of Pickering was held on TUESDAY, the THIRTEENTH day of APRIL, 1954, at 7: 30 0' clock in the evening. PRESENT: George T. Todd, in the Chair Clare A. Balsdon William G. Newman William G. Lawson Hugh G. Michell ~. B.~, West Rouge, was heard, asking that the . 300.00' Building Deposit be not required to build his house, as he had not the funds. Mr. Bell agreed to get a Performance Bond, or arrange through his Banker. MOVED by Mr. Newmanl seconded by Mr. Lawson, that 1954 Police rate be 6.8 Mills to raise ~ 32,420.08, plus 1. Mill for Capital Account to build new Police Station at estimated cost of $ 15,000.00, and that a further 1. Mill be levied in years 1955 and 1956 to cover capital cost of same. Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, moves that By-Law No. 2001 to increase certain Municipal employee salaries and employ an. assistant to Assessor and Clerk, be now read a second time, and that the Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. CARRIED BY-LAW NUMBER 2002 Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Lawson, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law to levy a special rate on the taxable property in the Police Village of Claremont, to defray the cost of street lights and other special purposes in the said Village, in the year 1954, and that same now be read a first time. Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Newman, moves that By-Law No. 2004 to authorize the borrowing of $ 80,000.00 upon Debentures for School purposes, be now read a second time, and that the Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
