PRESENT: George T. Todd, in the 6hair K. A. Roberts William G. Lawson William G. Newman Hugh G. Michell Lloyd T. Johnston Aß order was received from Fire Area No.1 for payment of a resuscitator for $ 349.50, bought from Wilson and Cousins, Limited. As Pickering Rotary Club had donated $ 25.00 towards this project, and as Council expected to make a donation, it was requested that the President, Mr. R. B. Wells, should be asked to attend a meeting of Council to discuss the matter. . . The Petition of the Liverpool Ratepayers' Association requesting that the person or persons responsible for upkeep of roads in Plan 509 be required to put roads in a reasonable condition. It was sign~d by twenty owners. The Clerk was instructed to advise James Cater, who submitted the Petition that Mr. White had assured Council that he would, build proper roads in Pl~~ 509 to meet Co~ncil's approval as soon as our Road Superintendent would approve and that if n~cessary the roads would be snow ploughed at his expense. MOVED by Dr. Roberts, seconded by ~æ. Lawson, ,that the following revision of salaries of office staff be made: Miss Green, Present salary $2600.00 - Less $150.00 - to $ 2450.00 Mrs. Storry, ~resent salary $2400.00 - Less $150.00 - to $ 2250.00 Mrs. Spang, Present salary $2000.00 - Plus $100.00 - to $2100.00 as of March 1, 1954. MOTION LOST I MOVED by I~. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Newman, that I~s. Spang's sal~y ,_.~ be increased from $2000.00 to $2100.00, as of J~nuary 1, 1954. ~~ / MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Michell, that Scarborough Township Clerk be written advising that Pickering Council is agreeable to any action he may take to secure a thirty mile speed limit on our Town Line between Highway 401 and Lawson Road. CARRIED / MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. tlichell, that Clerk contact Peter Kaiser to see if he would act as a part time Police Officer for North Pickering Township, and if ~~successful, advertise for such an officer. CARRIED J MOVED by I~. Newman, seconded by Mr. Michell, that application be made / to the Department of Highwar,s for the balance of the grant on 1953 Road Expenditures, amounting to ~ 111,947.97. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Michell, that Council purchase from Alex Gourlie the north-east corner of his 10t~50 feet on Concession 1 by 200 feet ~ angling out on sideline between Lots 28 - 29 in Broken Front, Range 3, for the price of $ 250.00. CARRIED ) MOVED by Mr. Michell, secondedcby Mr. Lawson, that I~. William Newman be Council member on Planning Board for 1954. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Lawson, that the Valuators of assets of Pickering Township for adjustment with Pickering Village, W. H. Westne~, Gordon McLean, and Ted Sims, be required to value following assets: ~ 7 ~ - 2 - (1) Municipal Building and house attache~ thereto and all assets found within the Municipal Building. Township Hall and shed at rear and all assets found within the Township Hall. , (2) ( Assets found in the Police Office Building plus two cars, radio antennae and officers' equipment. CARRIED Suggested names for three seats on 1954 Planning Board: Wells Ritchie, Stephen Stephenson, Byron Burritt, Clare Balsdon, C. J. Dick, Roy Morrish, Vaughan Willard. (3) AGREED that Police Building should be about 40 feet by 60 feet - cement block - and cost not more than $ 15,000.00. , CLERK'S INSTRUCTIONS; 1. Check John Byrne for payment 1952 culvert. 2. Prepare By-Law for Council salaries - $10.00 and mileage per meeting. 3. Arrange meeting with School Trustees in water area for February 17th or 16th. 4. Write L. A. Boucher to view and take levels for two bridges at approximate cost of $ 6,000.00 in total. BY-LAW NUMBER 1981 Dr. Roberts, seconded by Mr. Michell, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law to provide for the total 1954 expenditure on ROADS in the Township of Pickerinf in the County of Ontario, and that same now be read a first time. Dr. Roberts, seconded by Mr. Newman, moves that By-Law No. 1981 to provide for the total 1954 expenditure on ROADS in the Township of Pickering in the County of Ontario, be now read a second time, and that the Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon: The Committee of the-Whole then arose and reported. Dr. Roberts, seconded by Mr. Lawson, moves that the Report of ' the Committee of the Whole on By-Law No. 1981 be adepted, and tßat the said By-Law be now read a THIRD time and passed; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and that the seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED BY-LAW NUMBER 1982 Mr. Ne~TIan, seconded by ~Ir. Michell, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Corporation of the Township of , Pickering for the insta¡lation of street lights in the Police Village of Claremont, and that same now be read a first time. Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Michell, moves that By-Law No. 1982 of the Corpor- ation of the Towmship of Pickering tO,authorize the i~stallat~on of street lights in the Police Village of Claremont, be now read a second tiWe, and that the Council go into Committee of ~he.Whole thereon. The Committee of the Whole then arose, and reported. CARRIED ~ BY-LAW NUMBER 1983 Mr. Michell, seconded by Mr. Newman, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law to appoint Pound-keepers and Fenceviewers for, the Municipality of the Township of Pickering for the year 1954, and that same'now be read a first time. - 3 - By-Law Number 1983 - Continued Mr. Michell, seconded by Dr. Roberts, moves that By-Law Number 1983 to appoint Pound-Keepers and Fenceviewers for the Municipality of the Township of Pickering for the year 1954, be now read a Second time, and that the Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. The Committee of the Whole then arose and reported Mr. Michell, seconded by Mr. Nemnan, moves that the Report of the Committee of the Whole on By-Law No. 1983 be adopted, and that the said ByGtaw be now read a THIRD time and passed; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and that the seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED AGREED that Council hold an Emergent Meeting Monday, the Twenty-Second day of February, 1954, at 7:30 P. M.
