An Emergent Meeting of Council was held on WEDNESDAY the T~enty-First
day of OCTOB.E.R, 1953, commencing at 7:30 o'clock in the e~ening.
PRESENT: George T. Todd, in the Chair

Hugh G. Michell
William G. Lawson
Lloyd T. Johnston
The following PERSONS, on Motion, were heard:
1. Messrs. Silas Tool and Sidney Push, of the Picketing Game Committee
asked that Council request the Department of Game and Fisheries'
that a "Game Overseer" be appointed for our area.
2. Mr. DQnald Redfern presented and explained his report for water
in south-west Pickering and recommended:
(1) Area comprise lands from 300 feet north of Concession 2
to lake, and from Scarborough Townline to Picketing Village
and Ajax, less Lots 13, 14, 15, 16 in Concession 1.
(2) That whole area be covered on most built-up areas 22.8
miles a~t a cost of $ 965,000.00. He would prepare a con-
densed letter to the ratepayers and that four public
meetings be held on November 18, 21, 23 and 25 to explain
s~stem to ratepayers, which meetings he would attend.
3. Messrs. Livesay, Scott, Turnbull and Dick expressed their
views on proposed water, and asked Council to assume proposed
road to school in Section 18, after Gladys White and Company
had built it to Township specifications.
The following COFJ~ESPONDENCE was .read:
1. H. A. Newman suggested suit against Department of Highways and
Township for erosion of soil from new Fairport Road onto his
farm, claiming that it was depreciating value of his lands.
Clerk advise tha~ Department have inspected and believe there
is no damage ~caused by erosion.
2. H.~ A'. Ne~m~u', ~dVi~i~g tha~ 'e~ce~ss water has been turned on him
by the building of new Fairport Road and that he is objecting.
Clerk contact Department for their opinion.
3. Fines - September, $ 158.86.
4. Roman Catholic School wants their share of 5% lands granted by
subdivi~ors, especially Mr. Hough.
5. Pickering School Area l, asking to be kept informed of proposed
new subdivisions.
6. Ar~....hur ~ttleib asked permis.sion to lease part of Concession ~
opposite his farm in Lot 19 (not a through road). Road Superin-
tendent give description.
MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Michell, that Clerk request the
Department of Game and Fisheries that a "Game Overseer" be appointed
in this area to enforce Game laws. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Lawson, that a vote of the owners
in the area of 300 feet north of Concession 2 to Lake from Scarborough
Town Line to Pickering Village and Ajax less Lots 13, 14, 15 and 16
in Concession 1 be taken on December 7th next on the question, "Are
you in favour of a Municipal Water Project as submitted by Proctor,
Redfern and Laughlin, at a cost of $ 965,000.00?" CARRIED

~VED by Nr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Michell, that Council assume a
sroposed road from East Avenue to .proposed new School No. 18, approximately
O0 feet when the Gladys White and Company have built same to Council's
specifications. C..ARRIED
~)VED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. ~chell, that the Court of Revision
sit on Tuesday and Wednesday,'the 10th and llth days of November, 1953,
to hear complaints against the 1953 ~ 9955 Assessment Roi1, as returned
by the Assessor, October 1, 1953. CARRIED
t~mpbyMr. Lawson, seconded by Mr.· Michell, that Council agree to pay
rovement District of Ajax for six calls (fire) at $ $0.00 each,
which was the old Agreement with Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation,
and that proposed new Agreement with Ajax be signed and dated January 1,
1953. CARRIED
