HomeMy WebLinkAboutNovember 17, 1952 MUNICIPAL BUILDING BROUGHAM An Emergent Meeting of Council was hel~ on MONDAY the SEI~NTEE~H day of N0..VE~.~ER, 1952, commencing at SEVEN THIRTY_ o'clock in the evening. PRESENT: George T.~ Todd, in the Chair Clare Balsdon William Newman Hugh Mi che Ih The following persons, on MOTION, were heard: (1) Joe Barjak asked for a Wrecking ~icense (2) Constable Masters, re Joe Barjak. (3) Gordon Benson and all roa~d men re fifty hour week. ~(~) E. K. Jones, asked for filing cabinet and table for addresso- graph plates. (5) Ken Taylor re .White Truck (6) Cyril Morley, re Picketing Water ~ote. The 'following CORRESPONDENCE was read: (1) Cle'rk advised that Mr. Grant's adv~ice re Mr. Tool objecting to closing of Reesor sideroad was that only persons whose lands abut or use the road as an entrance to their property could object. (2) Department of Health Waterworks a~proval No. 52 B 368 for' Picketing Village for vobinE on $258,000.00 project. (3) Mr. Melville Grant - Letter of advice to Council re granting Picketing Vtll'~ge a vote and possibility of Province guarantee- ing Debentures. (4) Tenders were opened for 4-ton gravel truck and box and resulted as follows: Price Allowance on ~01d Truck Net White 6800.00 : 600.00 6,200.00 6800.00 No Trade 6,800.00 International O. 73 O. 00 ,280.73 Reo 5828.61 No Trade 5,828.61 G.M.C. 6575.60 925. O0 5,650. O0 Griffin Oshkosh Include Truck 5,500.00 MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by ~r. Miche!l, that Road men be asked to wor-~ ~ ~a ~ten-hour~~ ~ . d~a~ as~ before and that lost time between November 1 and November 17 be made up ~t~ ~e~ ~ours per day, that Motion of November 1952, regarding same be repealed. CARRIED MOVED.by ~r. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Michell, that table be built for addressograph plates and Assessor secure a four-section filing cabinet. CARRIED M0~IED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by i~,!r. Newman, that Council accept the Tender of V~ite Truck Company of~ $6,800.00 for Truck and box without trade-in, subject to the approval of the Department of Highways. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Michell, that Council recommend to ~-~'e County Council that Joe Barjak be given a 1952 Wrecking License, that it is expected that he will clean up his premises to the satisfaction of the Constable by January 1st, 1953. Otherwise he will not be granted a 1953 license; that he erect a board fence as required, on four sides, immediately. MOTION LOST BY-LAW NUMBER .Mr. Balsdon~ seconded by _~r. Newraan, moves for leave to introduce a By- Law to p~ovide for a vote beinC taken oC the E!ec~ors of the Police Villac~ of Pickerin~ on the questiom: "Are you in favour oC the establishment of a Municipal Water System in the Police Vi!!ace of Picketing, at an approximate cost of (~ 2~8~000.00 (~vo Hundred and Fifty-EiTht Thousand Dollars)?.'' and that .sa~e now bB read a first time. Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr.' Hiche!l, moves that By-Law No. 192~.~ to provide for a vote bein~ taken of the Electors of the Police Village of Picketing on the question: "Are you in favour of 'the establishment of a Municipal Water system in the Police Village of Pickering~ at an approximate cost of $2~8~000.007'' and that the Council go into Co~ittee of the !~ole thereon. ~. Balsdon, seconded by ~r.~ Ne~an, moves that the Report of the Co~ittee of the ~.o1~ on By-Law No. !92~ be adopted, and that the s~d By-Law be n~w read a Third time and passed; that the Reeve and Cl~rk sign the s~e, and that the sea! of the Corporation be affixed thereto. ~ CARRIED BY-LAW ~BER_~ .... Mr. 'Ne~an, seconded by l~,{r, t~icbell, moves for leave to introduce a By- Law stopping up and sa!~e of a part of a certain road al!o~/ance i~ the Township of Pickering, and that s~e now be read a first time. ~. Ne~an, seconded by Hr. Hichell, moves that By-Law Ho. 192~ stopping up and ~ale of a part of a certain road allow~ce in the Township of Picketing, he now read a second time, and that the Council go into Committee of the '~ole thereon. :'~m. Ne~an, seconded by ?~r. ~ca!sdon, moves that the Report of the Committee of the ~Fao!e on By-Law Itc. 192~ be adopted, and that the said By-Law be~ now read s Third time and passed; that the Reeve and Clerk si~'on the s~.e, and that the seal ce__ the Cormoration_ be affixed thereto.
