Newman The MINUTES of the pre~tous meeting, held July 2nd, 1952, were read as amended, a~d on Motion of Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Newman, ADOPTED. The MNNUTES of an Emergent Meeting, held July 9, 1952, were read, and on Motion of Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Newman, ADOPTED. The following CORRESPONDENCE was read: 1. ~olice Chief asked for a Safe for office; recommended a local one f'or $75°00 - worth $500.00. 2. F. J. Hamilton complained about neighbour on Old Rosebank Road North blocking road di$ch so ~that water backs up on his property. Road Superintendentent to remove. 3- J. L. Phin ~omplained about Bonk Wrecking Yard. Council directed Po'lice to Charge im~ediately. 4- John Pallister, Concession 9, Lot 30, complained that no action had been taken to drain his cellar. Council cannot do work, as ditch would be too deep. 5- Tenders for Township Hall Evetroughing: .~ (1) Ross Disney - 215 feet $ 40~ -.$ 86.00 Elbows - 7- 20 $ 93.20 ~ (2) W. Hardy - 40~ per foot, plus $1.00 for elbows (4), plus $1.50 per square yard for tarring. ~ 6. H.R. Smith asked to take over Job of keeping dump clean. Would pay nothing for Concession, 7. M~s. E. M. Ellis asked for a Kennel License in Rouge Hills'. 8. R. D. Humph~ies, Solicitor for our Police Force, re salaries, a~vising that $125.00 increase not satisfactory. 9. Mrs. H. Cartwright, Concession 1, Lot 30, asked that her road, ist Concession' get calcium at Township expense. Advise her she can get it for $1.00 per bag. ~ ~ 10. William Dunham, complaining about Dog Catcher. ll. J. D. Millar, Deputy-Minister of Highways, advising that his Department will pay 30% cost of black top for Liverpool road between Highways 2 and 2A. Then we would get our regular 50% grant on balance. 12. 19~l Auditor's Report - Road and Bridge. 13. L. A. King, re watercourse - sideline between Lots 30 - 31, Con- cession ~1. ~ 1~. Walter Bergman, complaining about grader grading and spoiling road in front of his property, which he oiled at his expense. Grader filled in holes but did not hurt road. ~ ~ 15. BuildtnE Inspector - July permits, value $326,400.00. Total for year, $1,051,550.00. Advised Howard Morgan now living in garage at ' Rouge Hills. - 2 - 16. Police Villa6e of Picketing requests that Second Concession line unopened south of Gordon ~House be closed. Was closed in 1878. 18. Bell Telephone Company,. advising they will clear up brush Con. 2, ~ideline Setween L&ts 24 - 25,1 when finish Job. 19. Select Committee of the Le$islatu~e i'nvesti~atin~ Leaseholds and Rentals - advising they have .received our resolution a~king that ContrOls be lifted in Picketing Township. 20. F. W. Police Report _ Housebreaking 2 Juvenile Charges, ll Theft, 14 B.L.C.A., 8 ~ Assault, 3 , Summonses Issued, ~6 False Pretences, i Summonses Served, 34 Arrests, 5 Stolen, $300.00 Accidents, 6 Recovered, $200.00 Juveniles Charged, 5 ~ Fines, $635.00 Much activity has resulted 'in increased revenue Shis month. Once ~again the need of a Pulmotor for t~e area has been shown by the untimely deat$~ of a 20 'year old man by drow~ing in the ~Rouge River. The body was covered in approximately 7 minutes after the lad had collapsed, a~ud had our Fire Department been equipped with the Pulmotor this life might have been saved. I strongly recommend the purchase of this, together with dragging hogks and a small duck boat to assist in the saving of life. The Juveniles have again been active, stealing from the clothing and cars of bathers, and more ~charges have been laid, and money and property recovered. Accidents have been numerous, and much propePty damage and personal injuries resulting. The following PERSONS, on MOTION, were heard: 1. Mr. Clifford Anderson, asking t?at large stones on White's sideroad be removed by the Township. He asked for ~a price to remove and suggested each owner abutting pay possibly $30.00 over 3 years as a part paymen6. 2. Mr. Frank Gra~, who had dogs in his sheep, and has som~ d~lay'in registering, asked for a settlement. He also asked damages for 2t~n dead lambs when born and two ~wes not inspected by valuator when dead. 3. Mrs. Wardell, complained about drainage in Plan 316. 4. ~r. W. B. Milne, asked for a grant for Markham Fair. CLERK' S INSTRUCTIONS 1. Advise Mr. C. Anderson cost of remOving large stones on White's sideroad. 2. Ask Fa~rpSrt ~each Association if they will provide four truc~s to haul stones from White's Side,cad if~Tognship will load free. 3. Write John Graham to post signs in'his park advising of any-dan- gerous holes in Rbuge River and advise that if there are any further drownings, guards will be necessary; also post signs in areas that are safe for bathing. Get particulars regarding person who saved life of Charles Reynold's son at Lynbrook Park and recommend an award from Red Cross. 5- Advise Mr. Beckstead that his bitch must not run at large in season. 6. Advise Mrs. Waddell that a Committee of Council will inspect Plan 316 regarding drainage. 7. Clerk write Scarborough to see if thev would have water available for South-West part of Picketing Town~hip. 8. Advise Greenwood Ratepayers that they will have to pay for secohd application of calcium and Road Superintendent will place if over twenty bags. 9. Have Vern Ellicott put boiled oil on Councillors' desks. 10. Write N. Irish, asking him to clean up his yard. ll. Check on Dyson - Cowan story that Council took over road in to Rodd's store when railway went through. 12.
