BROUGHAM
An Emergent meeting of Council was held on WEDNESDAY, the 9th day of
July, 1952, commencing at EIGHT o'clock in the evening.
PRESENT: George T. Todd, Chairman
Milton B. Bu~k
C. A. Balsdon
Hugh G. Michell
William G. Newman
The Reeve reported that the present system of Police calls to Sergeant
White's home being charged to Police office is not satisfactory.
MOVED by Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Burk, that Sgt. F. W. White be
~ a Police Telephone credit card for Police calls. CARRIED
o by Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, that the Report of the
tree of the Whole on By-Law No. 1916, to authorize the borrowing
of Two Hundred and Thirty Thousand Dollars ($230,000.00) upon debentures
for the building and equipping of an addition to the present Picketing
District High School Building, be adopted, and that the said By-Law be
now read a Third time and passed; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same,
and that the seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto.
At the request of Mr. Newman, the yeas and nays were called for and
resulted as follows:
NAY - Messrs. Michell and Burk
YEA - Messrs. Balsdon, Newman and Todd
CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Michell, that the Department of
~--~ipal Affairs be approached in an effort to force the Improvement
District of Ajax to issue their share of the $230,000.00 High School
Debenture. At the request of the Mover and Seconder, this Motion was
wi thdrawn.
Reeve Todd presented a list of salaries of Teachers and Employees of the
Picketing and District High School, and it was agreed that said list
would not be released to the Press.
Clerk' s Instructions
1. Arrange for a meeting of Council, Fire Area No' i Committee and
Tranesco at Fire Hall for Monday, July l~th, at 8 P. M. if possible.
2. Send copy of Stouffville Fire Brigade proposal for a portion of Pick-
ering Township to be serviced by them~to Claremont Fire Brigade.
3. Call Mr. Weeks, Bell Telephone Company, Oshawa 3-4313, Friday,
between 9 and 12 o'clock A. M.
~. Ask Road Superintendent to grade Rosebank fpom crossing to Rodd's
store and 100 yards south, and get cost of 40 yards gravel for same.
5. Have High School salary schedule typed for Councillors.
