H. Westney, in the Chair. Deputy-~eeve N. ~. McEwen Councillor C. A. Balsdon Councillor M. B.' Burk and Councillor F. E. Zinkie. The MINUTE~ of the meeting held on August 1st, 1951, were read, and on MOTION of Mr. Burk, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, ADOPTED. The MINUTES of the meeting held on August 23rd, 1951, were read, and on MOTION of Mr. Burk, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, ADOPTED. The following CORRESPON~ENCEwas read :- 1. D~partment of Health regarding Disciples' Church Cemetery. 2. Municipal Board - advising that pursuant to our rePea~ of the zoning'by-law No.1870 by by-law No.1875, they have closed their file on the matter. 3. Minister of Highways - ad~ing they are too busy to loan us an Engineer regarding-c°nhecting links between Highways 2 and 2A. 4. C.C. Smith - asking for a taxi license for Dunbarton Area. GRANT~ 5. Department of Highways.- advising they will pay $100.00 to us for one-quarter of an acre being all Evelyn Avenue in Plan 230 south o~ Highway No. 2A. Clerk to get information from Hrs. Silas Dixon as to her agreement to this. 6. Dr. D. R. Fletcher, Whitby, (Ontario Hospital) advising that in ca~ of any ~f their inmates escaping they immediately notify the local and Ontario Provincial Police, and believe they do all that is possible in this regard.~ 7. W.T. Heron - advising he will not re-ren~ trailers or t~ailer space, when they become vacant. 8. Canadian Underwriters Associat~gn~,- approving their test on Fire Area NO.1 500 gallon Pumper now being ~elivered by F.W.D. 9. Bell Telephone Co,.- cop~ of brief on application for increased rates. 10. F.J.Prouse~- Report Building Permits for August as follows:- ...... 27 Permits for a total of $97,88~.00 Total to S~ptember 1.1951. $694,7~0.00 August fees $133.00 11. Petition containing the signatures of 21 residents, presented by Dr. C.C.Clemmer, Lot 15 in Concession 5, asking Council to (1) force the closing of operations in gravel pit owned by Curran & Briggs, between 8 P.M. and 6.30 A.M. - to conform to the Township Anti-Noise By-~w. (2) Have calcium chloride put on the Fifth Concession to alleviate the dust nuisance. 12. The Petition of 102 names of Picketing Beach residents was again presented and the Clerk was advised to contact the Department of Highways to see if Ajax can legally close the Base Line Road. -2- 13. Stolen $1,150. recovered $195.50 Fines. The following persons, on motion, were heard:- 1. W.C.Willson, Livestock Valuator, re Alex Gray sheep damage. 2. W. Martin, Rosebank Road - asked permission' to build two houses on Old Rosebank Road each on a 50 foot lot by 400 foot depth. Referred to Planning Board. 3. Hr. Cooper, of Cooper Block Co, stated he wished to continue dmawing gravel from Curran & Briggs pit twenty-foum houms a day. 4. Dr. C.C.Clemmer, his wife and a neighbor, Complained about dust and trucks working all night, .causing so much noise that sleep is impossible. It was agreed with Hr. Cooper that trucks would not work after 8 P.M. nor before 6.30 A.M. 5. Messrs Kimura and Suginomort in N.~ Lot 18, Concession 4, asked for a watercourse award. Agreed the Clerk get Hr. Horton, 0.L.S. of Ajax to do the work. by Hr. Clare Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Fred Zinkie, that as'the s, Act now requires that the Voters, List be prepared according plan and street number, and as our Assessment Roll is prepared according to School Sections alphabetically, that the 1951 Voters, List be prepared alphabetically as'in the past. C.A.Balsdon, that Council recommend to the Police Commissi,n that no extra men be added to the Force this yea~ as it is considered the busiest time of the year-is now passed. CARRIED. MOVED by Hr. M.B.Bu~k, seconded by Hr. C.A. Balsdon, that the three~ Mem-~ers of the Police Commission be paid $100.00 each covering services for t~e period June to December 31st, 1951. CARRIED. NOVED by Mr. M~B.Burk, seconded by Dr. N.E.McEwen, that the usual g~a~of $50.00 be paid the~South Ontario Plowmen,s Association for the year 1951. 9ARR~ED. · MOVED.by Mr. Bumk, 'seconded by Hr. Zinkie, that the owners on ' Woodview Road North be notified to remove all trees on roadwaY in front of their properties before December 1st, 1951, if they wish the wood, otherwise it will be cut and used by the Township, so that new road will be properly graded. CARRI.ED. MOVED by Dr. N.E.McEwen, seconded by Mr. F.E.Zinkie, that as Miss Gr-~has resigned from th~ Township office, the Clerk advertise in 0shawa and Stouffville papers for a Stenographer at a salax-y of $1,800. to $2,400. according to experience. CARRIED. -3- CLERK'S further instructions.:- 1. Write DePartment of Highways asking if it is in order for Ajax to close Range Line Road. 2. Have .Miss. Walker contact the Rates of Port Union. 3. Ask Cliff. Schwalm to list names of owners of dogs, if known, when picked up or destroyed. BY.-,LAW NO. 1877. Mr. M.B.BUmk, seconded by Mr. C.A.Balsdon, moves for leave to introduce a By-law to increase the salary of the Road Superintendent, and that same now be read a first time. Mr. M.B,Bumk, seconded by Mr. C.A.Balsdon, moves that By-law No. 1877 to increase the.salary of the Road Superintendent, be now read a second time, and that the Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. Mm. M.B.Burk, seconded by Mr. C.AeBalsdon, moves that'the Report of the Com~,ittee of the Whole on By-law No. '1877 be adopted, and that the said By-law be now read a third time and passed; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and that the seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. BY-LAW NO. 1878 Mr. M.B.Burk, seconded by Dr. N.E.McE~en, moves for leave to introduce a By-law to take over North Woodview-Road and Greenwood Road as Township roads, and that .same now be read a first time. F.E.Zinkie, moves that By-law No.1878 to take over Nor. th Woodview Road and Greenwood Road as Township roads, be now read a second time, and that the Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
