HomeMy WebLinkAboutOctober 17, 1949 M U N I C I P"A L B U I L D I N G BROUGHAM. An EMERGENT Meeting of the Council was held On OCTOBER 17th 1949. Ail Men'ers were present, the Reeve in the Chair. On October 12th 19~9 Council, together with Mr. M. Grant and Mr. J. Banigan, met Mr. Dunbar, Mr. Orr and Mr. Carter, of the Department of Municipal Affairs at their offices in Tc~onto for three hours, and discussed the proposal of Central Mortgage and Housing COrporation that Picketing Township again resume Municipal services at Ajax. It was finally agreed that any further discussion in this matter should be with the Minister, and the final advice of Mr. Carter - with Mr. Orr's approval - was that the proposal, while it created many dangers, should be undertaken by the Council providing they received the Pumping Station, the best deal possible, and that any agreement made would be approved b~ Parliament. On October 12th, 1949, at 8 P.M. the Council met about sixty ratepayers, representing the whole Township, together with Mr.Pope and Mr. Finley, of Central Mortgage & Housing Corporation, to discuss the recommendation of C.M. & H. that Picketing Township again resume the Municipal services at Ajax· While no actioz was taken, the ratepayers were given a better understanding of the proposal. The MUNICIPAL BOARD met in the Township Hall at 10 A.M. Standard Time'on October 17th 19~9, to hear the application to have Ajax and 3,800 additional acres of land set up as an Improvement Area. The Board consisted of Mr. Couiter, Mm. Moore and Mr. Yeates. Biecause of Central Mortgage & Housing Corporation's further letter to the Township requesting that the Township again resume Municipal services, and as this letter was only received on 0ct oho 6th 1949, Mr. Grant, the Township Solicitor, asked for, and receiw an adjournment of the Board until November 8th, 1949, at 10 A.M. Standard Time at Brougham. There were in attendance possibly one hundred ratepayers. Mr, Melville Grant, having been in attendance at the Municipal Board hearing on the Ajax Improvement Area, sat in with Council to discuss the new proposal of Central Mortgage & Housing Corporat whereby Picketing Township would resume Municipal services in the Ajax Area. Mr. Grant stated that he had contacted Mr. Lancelles, Treasurer of the City of Toronto, and the Clerk of Forest Hill Village regarding said proposal and they, and he himself, considered the proposition sound provided the best deal possible were secured including the water plant and that there be no Local Improvements for Ajax services. Mr. Grant discussed the Zoning By-law relative to the Board,s recommendations re (1) definition of "Motels", (2) Cabins for s,,mmer camps and (3) H.A.Newman's set-back on certain short lots in Port Dunbarton. MOVED by M~. Burk, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, that the Court of Revision - to hear complaints against the 1950 Assessment Roll, - do sit in the Municipal Building at Brougham on Wednesday, Novembe 9th, 1949, at the hour of 9.A.M. Standard Time. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Todd, seconded by Mr. Burk, that Mr. McFee who moved a shack from one part of A.F.Percy's property to another on Oct obe 10th, be prosecuted under our Building By-law.
