The Municipal Council of the Township of Picketing met on the Second day of May, 1949, at Brougham, pursuant to adjournment. Ail Members present - the Reeve in the chair. 'The Minutes were presented, and, on motion of Mr. Burk, seconded by Mr. Disney, adopted. Cortes- The following correspondence was read :- pon~-~ce 1. County Clerk - Hospitalization of Eichard Mahon, Ajax. AO..CEPTED', 2. County Clerk - Hospitalization of Mrs. Adele Paimio 9 Oak Street, Ajax. ' ACCEPTED. 3. Dept. of Highways - Approval for 1949 Road Expenditure ' of $70,000.00. 4- G. N. Irwin - Protesting his property becoming part of Ajax Improvement District. 5. W. H. Stringer ~ Ontario Provincial Police - Advising that neither White nor Irvine are acceptable to them because they are under height. 6. F. J. East Woodlands Community Association - Asking for a grant t~a~ds a sp0~t"s fie~d. NO ACTION. 10. Police Report for April 1949. Persons The'following persons, on motion, were heard :- Heard A. F. M. Chapman, Ross ~in, W. Holochuk, Vernon Disney, re~ueating that Council do not change present policing to Ontario Provincial Police. B. Messed Mairs and Beer of Brougham - Asking that the stage in Township Hall be set farther back and stating that the Brougham Club were prepared to pay fifty per cent (50%) ' of the cost. It was agreed that Messrs Disney and Burk be ~ Committee from Council to work with the local Committee. C. Mr. H. A. Kirton of Concession 7, Lot ~4, requested sideline between Lots 34 and 35 be re-opened, and that he would pay for the grading and gravelling opposite his property, as at present water is flooding his lands. Council aEreed to inspect. D. Mr. Justus .TqddI repr. esentin~ Claremont Le~ion - Stating that they wam~ed title to the Claremont Memorial Park and Athletic Field and Hall; that present Board would not meet, and that they would do nothing to keep the Hall in repair. Council asked Mr. Todd to again contact the ~aP~ for a meeting and resolution turning the property over to them. -2- Ee M~. Birch and Secretary of Dunbarton Shores Committea re drainage. Mr. Balsdon reported that he and Mr.Wa~d had met the Port Dunbarton Committee re drainage, and it was agreed that Council and Committee should each contribute to better drainage. MOVEDby 'Mr. Burk, seconded by Mr. Todd that Garage be eavestroughed and corners grounded for fire protection. CARRIED. AGRk~r~ that Members of Councii meet all owners in Fairport Beach whose property lies on unopened road on Hill at 2 P.M. May 14th, 19 . AGREED that Frank Westney and others be permitted to erect a sign of location of farms on sideline between lots l0 - ll north of No.~2 Highway under the supervision of the Eoad Superintendent. MOVED by. Mr. Burk, seconded by Mr. Balsdon that Mrs.~obertson's salary be increased $100.00 - from $1,O00. ~to $1,100. as of May lst.19~9. CARRIED. MOVED by Mr. Todd, seconded by Mr. Burk that no kennel license be issued to Herbert H. Butt for year 1949, and ~thab notice that noise nuisance must abate forthwith, be sent. CARRIED. MOVED by Mr. Todd, seconded by Mr. Burk, that a grant of ~-5~0. be given the Rouge Hill Memorial Fund 'fo~ th~ upkeep of the Memorial Tablet. ~ MOVED by Mr. Disney, seconded by Mr. Bu~k, that a copy of water analysis made by the Department, be sent to the Secre- tary of ~chool Section 3 East. ~ARRIED. MOVED by Mr. Burk, seconded by Mr. Todd, that C~erk advise W. H. 'Che~ter to remove large ash tree at North-wes~ corner of his farm within fourteen days of date, or it will be removed by Council. CARRIED. MOVED by Mr. Disney, seconded by Mr. Burk, that no ggreement be-~gned with the Ontario Provincial Police for the policing of South Picketing and that present police officers continue as at present. CARRIED. MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Todd, Shat the salary o-~ Constable Fred White be increased $100.00 from $2,000. to $2,100. as of April 1st, 1949. CARRIED. MOVED by Mr. Todd, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, that if Rosebank p~ople interested in ~school children crossing to Scarboro' School are prepared to make a community project and arrange and construct a path in conjunction with Mr. Munro ahd Mr. Souter, Picketing Township Council will contribute an amount equal to half the cost - Township share not to exceed $50.00, and a copy of this motion be forwarded to Mrs. Cowan, Rosebank. By-Law Mr. M.B.Bu~k, Seconded by Mr. George Todd, moves for leave to Special irrtrOduce a By-law to levy a special rate on taxable property ' Rate in the Police Village of Picketing, and that same now be i~ering read a first time. · Mr. M.B.Burk, Seconded bY N~. George Todd, moves that By-law No.1780, to levy a special rate on the taxable property in the Police Village of Picketing, be now read a Second time and that the Council go into Committee of the whole thereon. Mr. M.B.Burk, Seconded by Mr. George Todd, moves that the Report of the Committee of the whole on By-law No.1780 be adSpted and that the said By-law be now read a third time and passed; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and that the seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED. By-law Mr. M.B.Burk, seconded by Mr. C.A.Balsdon, moves for leave Special to introduce a By-law~ to levy a special rate on the taxable Rate property in the Police Village of Claremont, amd that same C--~emont now be read a first time. Mr. M.B.BUrk, seconded by Mr. CeA.Balsdon, moves that By-law No.1781, to levy a special rate on the taxable property in the Police Vi.llage of Claremont, be now read a second time, and that the Council go into Committee of the whole thereon. Mr. M.B.Burk, secended by Mr. C.A. Balsdon, moves that the Report of the Committee of the whole on By-law No.1781, be ad~pted and that the said By-law be now read a third time and passed; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the Same, and that the seal of the ~Oorporation be affixed thereto.
