A~ emergent meeting of the Municipal Council of the Township of Picketing was held in the Municipal Building on August.18th' 1948 at 8.00 P. M. Ail members present, the Reeve tn the .chair. Sgt. Elllott of the Police Co~aission at Aurora, having been Prey. asked to attend, a~dresaed the Council relative to the Provincial Police Police taking over police duties of Picketing Township. The Sgt, state~ that his superior, Inspector E. J. Hand, was on holidays, but woul~ attend a meeting of the Council on September ?th next and come prepared to submit costs, etc., in this connection. Mr. Powers, Manager of Saree of Canada, complained about his Re 1948 assessment having been increased to $16,250.00 from'$4,~10.00 Sarc~ in 1947, and asked that an adjustment be made for 1949. Arrange- ~enta have been ma~e for County Assessor and local Assessors to cheek on 1949 assessment on the property on August 23rd next. Re T~x ~. M. Forsyth of Claremont acted as spokesman for a group protest of Claremont an~ Brougham ratepayers who complained about their 1948 assessment and tax rate. Move~ by Dr. McEwan, seconde~ by Mr. Burk that Claire Balsden Re be appointed a co~mittee of one to investigate the garbage situat- Garb4 ion in the south part of the Township, and bring in a report for age September 7th meeting. Carried. Move~ by Dr. MoEwen, seconded by Mr. Balsdon that we contact Re the Soarboro Council and reoommen~ that the Township of Plokering pavimg pay 7% of the net cost lncurre~ ~y the Soarboro and Picketing town- Township in the construction of an asphalt paved road on our line townllne from No. 2A Rlthway to Range Line' being road leading to the Johns Manville CO. plant. Carried. A letter was read from the Clerk of the Township of Whitby Re approving the names of the Picketing, Whitby PlanningBoar4 aa Plan- submitted by Picketing Township, and 'sub~itte~ the names of: ning W~. G. Manning, Brooklin, for ~ years. Boar~ Roy F. Lick, R.R.~, Oshawa, for 2 years. It was move~ by Mr. Burk, seconded by Dr. McEwen that Wm. G. · Manning and Roy F. Lick, who have bean named by the Municipal Council of the Township of Whitby, ~s members of the joint Pick- eting - ~hitby Planning Board, be accepted by this Council. Carried. Clerk's Instructions: 1. Contact the Department of Highways for further develope- menta relative to Counsellors interview with Hon. Mr. Doucette regarding connecting ~tnka between Highways ~ and 2A. 2, Have Mr. A. D. Ruddy search title of sidelines between iota 4 and 5 in 9th Concession. ~. Write the Secretaries of Whitby High School and Scarboro Collegiate Institute regarding any ~mmediate change in the ad- mittanceof Township of Picketing High School pupils. 4. Ask Road Superintendent to clean out road ditch on west side of Norman Wilson. property. 5, Ask Road Superintendent to have the worst weeds cut in Rouge Hills on private property. 6. Insert notice in local papers requesting all Junior High School pupils to attend local Continuation Schools. Moved by Dr. McEwen, seconded by Mr. Disney that the report of the co~enlttee of the whole on By-Law No. 1754 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a third time, and that the do now pass, that the Reeve and clerk sign the same, and that the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto.
