COUNCIL MEETING
A meeting of the Pickering Town Council
was held on MONDAY, FEBRUARY 14th 1977
at 9:00 P.M.

RESOLUTIONS
Resolution 20/77
Moved by Councillor Cahill, seconded by Councillor
Matheson that whereas the Association of Kinsmen Clubs
has been a vibrant, responsible, Canadian Association
of Service Clubs, devoted to the concept of voluntary
service by hundreds of thousands of members dedicated
to serving their communities throughout Canada since
its Founding in Hamilton, Ontario in 1920; and
WHEREAS THe Association of Kinsmen Clubs has been cognizant
of the needs of our Town and has diligently sought the
development and conduct of timely, relevant programs to
meet the needs and challenges of constantly changing society; and
WHEREAS The anniversary date of the birthday of our
Canadian Flag is February 21st; and
WHEREAS The Flag of our Country is symbolic of the
heritage of all groups and ethnic backgrounds forming
the citizenry.of our Country; and
WHEREAS The Association of Kinsmen Clubs feels that each
citizen would welcome the opportunity to pause and reflect
with pride on the rich heritage of accomplishment created
by the desire, dedication and determination of those who
preceded; and
WHEREAS A day designated HERITAGE DAY would allow the
Kinsmen Club of BAY RIDGES to give the citizens of PICKERING
an opportunity to rededicate themselves and to demonstrate
their pride in the heritage of their Country;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE ASH&~OR of the TOWN OF PICKERING
do hereby proclaim the week of February 20th through to
February 26th NATIONAL HERITAGE WEEK and more specifically
February 21st 1977 as NATIONAL HERITAGE DAY; and urge
all people of Pickering to share and demonstrate justifiable
pride in our heritage by celebration and joining with
Kinsmen in saluting the Country's Flag, thereby strengthëning
and unifying the determination of the Country's future.

Moved by Councillor Anderson, seconded by Councillor
Kitchen that whereas the Government of the Province
of Ontario has encouraged residential growth east of
Metropolitan Toronto, including the Town of Pickering; and

WHEREAS the various Ministries including the ~cation
Mi~try, have been well aware of the impending development
in the Town of Pickering because of the lengthy planning
process; and

WHEREAS because of the above the population in South
Pickering has grown dramatically and will continue to
do so; and
WHEREAS School facilities in the vicinity of new subdivisions
are completely inadequate to serve the needs of our new
residents;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION
OF THE TOWN OF PICKERING go on record as being in complete
support of the efforts of the Durham Board of Education
and the parents of Pickering, to secure additional Education
facilities at the earliest possible moment and that this
resolution be circulated to:

Resolution 22/77
Moved by Councillor Anderson, seconded by Councillor
Robertson that whereas the Town of Pickering has been
negotiating with the Federal Government for the settlement
of the expropriation of the Pickering Museum at Brougham; and
WHEREAS in a letter dated February 7th 1977, addressed
to Mr. Norman Cafik, M.P., Mr. F.S. Currie, Director-
General of Public Works Canada, has outlined a settlement
of compensation under Section 24 (4) (b) of the Expropriation
Act; and
WHEREAS the basis of settlement provides for the relocation
of the Pickering Museum to the Hamlet of Greenwood; and
WHEREAS the basis of settlement is deemed equitable by
the Town of Pickering;
BE IT THEREFORE ENACTED that the necessary by-law be
prepared authorizing the Mayor and Clerk to exercise
whatever documents are necessary to finalize the expropriation
of the Pickering Museum in Brougham.

BY-LAWS
By-Law Number 556/77
Councillor Cahill, seconded by Councillor Matheson
moved for leave to introduce a By-law of the Town
of Pickering to authorize the execution of an Offer
to Purchase with respect to Part Lot 30, Range 3,
Broken Front Concession, and that same be now read
a first, second and third time, and that the same
be now finally passed and that the Mayor and Clerk
sign the same and that the Seal of the Corporation
be thereto affixed.
CARRIED
By-law read a first, second and third time and finally
passed.

ADJOURNMENT
Moved by Councillor Anderson, seconded by Councillor
Cahill that the meeting adjourn into Closed Session
at 'the hour of 9:22 p.m.
