ALSO PRESENT:
S. Reynolds - Division Head, Culture & Recreation
M. Carpino - Supervisor, Culture & Recreation
L. Roberts - Committee Coordinator
Mayor Ryan explained the process for selection, noting that a nominee would only be
chosen in one category. He further advised that more than one recipient can be
chosen in each category.
Discussion ensued on the process of the Civic Awards nominations for the following
year.
Mayor Ryan suggested we make recommendations as we go through the selection
process.
Councillor Dickerson expressed his concern with the quality of applicants being
received. Councillor O’Connell expressed her concern with the way the forms were
being filled out. She stated some forms were incomplete or improperly filled out. It
was suggested that they could be typed for clarity.

Councillor Dickerson declared a conflict of interest with respect to the individual
volunteer award category due to a family member being nominated. Councillor
Dickerson left the room during the discussion and vote on the matter.

Discussion ensued on Senior of the Year category. Steve Reynolds noted that this
category is presented on a Provincial level and not part of the City’s Civic Awards
ceremony.
Councillor Dickerson asked staff if they could look into the other senior of the year
award that is available through the government. It may be another opportunity to
recognize another local senior.
