A Meeting of the Pickering Town Council was held on Monday

Regular meeting of December 19,1988.

DELEGATIONS
1.
Russ Franklin representing the Senior Citizens of
South Pi ckeri ng addressed Counci 1 wi th respect to a
1 awn bowl i ng facil i ty. He requested that the Budget
be reconsidered to include a lawn bowling facility in
south Pickering and suggested three possible locations
that coul d be i nvesti gated: MTRCA 1 ands on the east
side of West Shore Boulevard, south of Kinsmen Park on
Sandy Beach Road and east of the West Shore Community
Centre.

Fire Chief Stewart and representatives of Dillon
Consultants addressed Council with respect to the Fire
Hall Relocation Study. Bob Lewis and Don Baird of
Dillon Consultants explained, through a slide
presentation, how the need for another fire hall was
determined.
3.
Betsy Gummow, 121 Twyn Rivers Drive, addressed Council
wi th respect to By-l aw 3003/89 She objected to the
passing of this by-law until the Budget has been
reviewed and stated that the 10% tax increase could be
reduced if unnecessary expenditures were deleted.
Murray Stroud, representi ng Cougs Investments, stated
that his client has purchased 5 1/2 metres for access
to the property and asked that this access be
permanent.

report on the feasibility of establishing a program for the
shredding of Christmas trees and the recycling of the wood chips
resulting therefrom.

That the Regional t4unicipality be requested to install traffic
signals at the intersection of Whites Road and Finch Avenue in
1989 at the cost of the Town of Pickering subject to the Town
being reimbursed for these costs in 1990 by the Region which is
when this work has been scheduled to be undertaken.

3006/89 and 3007/89 be adopted and the said By-laws be now read
a Thi rd Time and PASSED, and that the Mayor and Cl erk si gn the
same and the seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto.

OTHER BUSINESS

Mayor Arthurs stated a plaque from the Ontario Lottery
Corporation for participation in the Wintario Draw has
been recei ved and asked that thi s pl aque be hung at
the Recreation Complex.
Councillor Morgan stated she has tickets for the
Valentine Dance to be held by the Pickering and Ajax
Police Divisions.

to Metro Works on behalf of PACT regardi ng 1 andfi 11
sites in the Region of Durham.
Councillor r~itchell inquried into the status of street
lighting on Whites Road.

Councillor Van Kempen stated he has written a letter
to the Board of Education outlining alternate
1 ocati ons for the proposed hi gh school as i denti fi ed
by homeowners in the Enclaves.

Counci 11 or Di ckerson expressed hi s concern regardi ng
the environmental impact of the proposed school on
Liverpool Road North.

Councillor Dickerson requested that a "no exit" sign
be installed on Hensall Court.

Councillor Brenner stated that he will bring forward a
Notice of Motion regarding street lighting on Whites
Road at the next meeting.
Councillor Brenner stated he will be circulating a
report on a Growth and Development Committee.

Councillor Johnson expressed his thanks
flowers at his grandmother1s funeral.
The following matters were discussed prior to the

The request from Durham Mazda for the temporary
use of 1819 Kingston Road for the sale of new
cars was refused.
b)
A meeting of Council and the Durham Board of
Education was scheduled for January 30 at 5 p.m.
c)
The Committee agreed to relocate supermailboxes
from 966 Mountcastle Crescent to 1013 Mountcastle
Crescent.

d)
Councillor Johnson stated that all information
regardi ng agenda items shoul d be di stri buted to
Council on the Friday prior to the meeting.

By-law Number 3008/89
Counci 11 or Di ckerson, seconded by Counci 11 or Van Kempen moved
for 1 eave to introduce a By-l aw of the Town of Pi ckeri ng to
confirm the proceedings of the Council of the Corporation of the
Town of Pickering at its meeting held on the 16th day of
January, 1989 amd that the same be now read a first, second and
third time and that the same be now finally passed and that the
Mayor and Clerk sign the same and that the Seal of the
Corporation be thereto affixed.
