A Special Meeting of the Pickering Town Council was held on

Pursuant to Section 3 of By-law 3665/91 (Procedural By-law),
this Special Meeting was called to consider the following
resolution:

RESOLUTION
Resolution #13192
Moved by Councillor Johnson
Seconded by Councillor Van Kempen
Whereas on December 18, 1991, General Motors Corpora ti on
announced that a major restructuring of the Corporation is
underway, possibly. leading to the downsizing of facilities in
the City of Oshawa; and
Whereas it is recognized that General Motors is a major
contributor to the economic prosperity of the Regional
Municipality of Durham through its extensive capital
investments, the emp.1oyment of residents, the purchase of goods
and services and through its investment in skills development
and research which is required by the auto industry; and
Now Therefore the Council of the Corporation of the Town of
Pickering as a member municipality in the Region of Durham
hereby supports the Regional Municipality of Durham and the City
of Oshawa in thei r efforts to work wi th General Motors and its
employees in maintaining a viable, competitive and
cost-efficient automotive industry in the Region of Durham.
