Moved by J. Van Huss That the following two items to the agenda: 1) GBCA Preparation of brief evaluations 2) Webinars Carried 2.0 Delegations John Sabean Mr. Sabean is the former Chair of the Heritage Pickering Advisory Committee and the current Chair of the Pickering Township Historical Committee. He requested to appear before the committee to recommend that the Thomson House, located on Lot 14 at 8th Concession be designated as a heritage site as it is the birth place of Tom Thomson, one of the Group of Seven artists. Thomson had a significant influence on the group. Thomson's paintings The West Wind and The Jack Pine are two of the group's most iconic pieces. Page 2 Item / Ref # Details & Discussion & Conclusion (summary of discussion) Action Items / Status (include deadline as appropriate) Although, Mr. Thomson only resided in the house for a few months, he feels that it should still be granted a designation. The house is currently owned by Murray Carson, but leased to a tenant who may not be in favor of the designation as it would attract visitors to the property. Mr. Sabean indicated that he would be willing to assist the committee in doing further research and acting as liaison with Mr. Carson. He noted that there are a number of heritage reports at the Library as well as a documentary book on the Thomson Family. C. Celebre thanked Mr. Sabean for his presentation and advised that the committee would take the request under consideration and inform him of the decision. After discussion, it was agreed that the committee should add the Thomson House designation to the 2015/2016 Committee Work Plan. Dan Hagan Mr. Hagan did not attend. C. Celebre to follow-up to enquire if he wishes to appear before the committee at a later time. 3.0 Approval of Agenda/Minutes Moved by K. Borisko That the minutes of the June 24, 2015 meeting of the Heritage Pickering Advisory Committee be approved, as amended. Carried 4. New Business 4.1) Heritage Assessments 3280 Sideline 16 Moved by J. Van Huss 1. That staff ask if the school boards would be interested in incorporating the building located at 3280 Sideline 16 into a future school board block; and. That if the school boards are not interested in incorporating the building into a future school site, Council not object to the demolition of the house located at 3280 Sideline 16. Carried 1740 Fifth Concession Road Moved by J. Dempsey 1. That Council object to the demolition of 1740 Fifth Concession; and 2. That Council request that the property be managed in compliance with the Standards & Guidelines for Conservation of Provincial Heritage Properties. Carried 3490 Brock Road Moved by K. Borisko 1. That Council not object to the demolition of the house located at 3490 Brock Road; 2. That Infrastructure Ontario record the buildings in the form of photographs and/or drawings and provide the documents of the building to the City; and 3. That prior to demolition, exterior or interior heritage features be salvaged and any interested heritage organizations, the City or other interested parties be able to coordinate the salvage of any materials. That Council request that the property be managed in compliance with the Standards & Guidelines for Conservation of Provincial Heritage Properties. That Council object to the demolition of the house located at 1050 Whitevale Road; 2. That Council request that the property be managed in compliance with the Standards & Guidelines for Conservation of Provincial Heritage Properties; and 3. That Council designate 1050 Whitevale Road under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act. Carried 4.3) Draft Plan of Subdivision 815 & 575 Highway 7 Moved by K. Borisko That Ontario Infrastructure and Land Corporation prepare Heritage Assessment Reports for the properties located at 815 and 575 Highway 7. Carried 4.4) Draft Plan of Subdivision 3440 Brock Road Moved by J. Van Huss That Ontario Infrastructure and Land Corporation prepare a Heritage Impact Statement for the property located at 3440 Brock Road. Carried 5. Correspondence No correspondence. Page 5 6. Other Business C. Celebre circulated copies of a report received from GBCA consultants for the preparation of brief evaluations for the properties noted below:  1469 Taunton Road  170 Highway 7  2750 Whites Road  2900 Brock Road  565 Whitevale Road C. Celebre advised that she will need to submit a report to Council for these properties and suggested that the committee hold a meeting in August to review the recommendations. Committee members agreed to the proposed tentative date of Wednesday, August 19, 2015. Webinars J. Van Huss suggested to view some of the webinars at one of the committee meetings as they are very helpful but most of them are over 1 hour and require high speed internet. Committee members agreed to add the webinars to the fall meetings as a training session. 7.0 Next Meeting/Adjournment Next Meeting: Tentative for Wednesday, August 19, 2015 The meeting adjourned at 8:15 pm.
