HomeMy WebLinkAboutJanuary 27, 2014 2/10/2015 City of Pickering C4 61 PiCKERiNG 0 Hide Left Content 0 Hide Right Content Council Highlights January 27, 2014 Mayor fora Day Reya Ramdat,a Grade 5 student at Gandatsetiagon Public School,was selected as Mayor for a Day from the over 200 entries received in the Mayor for a Day contest,which is organized by the Durham District School Board. Reya visited Pickering City Hall on Monday,January 27th to learn more about the role of municipal government with Mayor Dave Ryan. She attended the Council meeting where she read her winning entry and was presented with the chain of office. View the meeting video to see the full presentation. Notice of Motion - Federal Lands Councillor Pickles seconded by Councillor Dickerson introduced a Notice of Motion regarding the Federal Lands. See the complete Notice of Motion (pages 8 to 10)from the Council Agenda for more information. Accessibility Policy Council endorsed the new Accessibility Policy which outlines the Corporation's requirements with regards to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act(2005)(AODA). The City is responsible to develop,implement and maintain polices governing how the organization achieves accessibility. The Accessibility Policy will be circulated to all staff staff once it is finalized. Notice of Motion - Monthly Reporting of Council Expenses Further to the Notice of Motion introduced at the December Council meeting (see page 89)by Councillor McLean and seconded by Councillor O'Connell,Council approved Report FIN 03-14 regarding the monthly reporting of Council expense. Reporting Council expenses on a monthly basis,and posting a Monthly Council Expense Report on the City's website,will increase the transparency and accountability with which the City and its Council conduct themselves. Heritage Designation of Walter Percy House Council approved Report PLN 06-14 regarding the heritage designation of 2865 Sideline 16 (Walter Percy House) under the Ontario Heritage Act.
