Kearns - Committee Coordinator (I) ADOPTION OF MINUTES Meeting of August 7, 2001 (II) DELEGATIONS 1. Jocelyn Barber, 450 Finch Ave., presented the Committee of the Whole with a petition under the. Drainage Act. Mrs. Barber states in the petition that she requires the restoration, maintenance and repair of a drainage works on 2030 Rosebank Road, Conc. II, S Pt. Lot 31,10.28 acres, plus 1 metre of fill. She further requests that an Engineer be appointed by Council to examine the area in order to make a report. (III) MATTERS FOR CONSIDERATION 1. Councillor McLean expressed his concern with the number of animals being destroyed at the Animal Shelter in Whitby. He suggested that the following alternatives be considered: (a) Pickering establish its own animal shelter; (b) a joint shelter between Pickering and Ajax; (c) status quo with improvements in taking in, housing and adopting out the animals; and (d) contracting out to an outside agency. He requested that the Clerk review this situation and report back to Council. 2. Councillor Holland commended Councillor McLean in bringing forward the above information and.questioned the disposal of the bodies of the animals which have been destroyed. 3. The following matters were discussed prior to the regular meeting: (a) The Chief Administrative Officer advised that Veridian will not be continuing with Phase II, burying overhead wires along Kingston Road. (b) The Chief Administrative Officer advised that another fire occurred on an Orion bus. All Orion buses in Ajax and Pickering have been taken out of service. CORPORATE SERVICES REPORT CS 23-01 2001 FINAL TAX DUE DATE FOR COMMERCIAL, INDUSTRIAL & MULTI-RESIDENTIAL REALTY TAX CLASS That Report CS 23-01 of the Director, Corporate Services & Treasurer, concerning 2001 Final Tax Due Date for Commercial, Industrial & Multi-Residential Realty Tax Class, be received for information; and 1. That the Director, Corporate Services & Treasurer be authorized to issue the FINAL 2001 Tax Bills for commercial, industrial and multi-residential properties with a due date of October 29th 2001; and 2. That the Director, Corporate Services & Treasurer be authorized to make any changes or undertake any actions necessary, including altering the due date, in order to ensure the tax billing process is completed; and 3. That the necessary By-law attached to this report be read three times and approved; and 4. That the appropriate staff of the City of Pickering be given authority to give effect thereto. • 2. That Councillors Brenner, Holland and Johnson be appointed to the Finance Committee for a term to expire on November 30, 2003. 2. That Councillors McLean, Pickles and Ryan be appointed to the Operations Committee for a term to expire on November 30, 2003. 3.
