Van Huss welcomed everyone to the meeting. 2.0 Approval of Minutes Moved by D. Joyce Seconded by J. Dempsey That the minutes of the May 29, 2014 meeting of the Heritage Pickering Advisory Committee be approved. Carried 3.0 Business Arising From Minutes Work Plan Updates Training E. Mason confirmed with M. Sawchuck that he could attend the September meeting to speak on recognizing architectural styles. Celebre provided an update on designations, noting that the City Development department will move forward with the preparation of an RFP to choose a heritage consultant to prepare background research on the Seaton lots for designations. C. Celebre noted she had circulated a newspaper article to members with respect to the designation of 2865 Sideline 16. 2015 Doors Open C. Celebre noted a sub-committee for Doors Open would need to be formed in September and also a date would need to be determined for the event. Doors Open and the Pickering Museum Village event were the same weekend, however, she had just been informed that the Pickering Museum Village had changed the date of their annual event to the end of October and noted that she would speak with Katrina Pyke at the Museum to discuss dates. W. Jamadar and C. Sopher volunteered to assist on the committee. Website Improvements J. Van Huss noted that Becky George from the Pickering Library was unable to attend the meeting to provide an update on websites, but stated she had extended an open invitation for members to attend the Library and conduct research. J. Van Huss noted she is still working on having Becky attend in the Fall, and stated that she would forward the Library’s contact information out to members. Register M. Sawchuck provided an update on the Register, noting there were currently a good number of photos on Flickr, and it is almost complete. A discussion period ensued. C. Sopher questioned the category for farm properties currently unoccupied, and whether they should be entered as “food supply” or “residence” if the barn is no longer there. Cladding material was also discussed, with M. Sawchuck providing clarification on these categories. Reimer questioned once the information is complete, whether it should be put on a USB. Plaque Program C. Sopher noted there are numerous plaque programs in Ontario. E. Mason suggested he speak with Mark and Patricia, who are involved in the Whitevale Heritage Pride Program, noting she could forward their contact information to him. Permit Applications C. Celebre noted the application received from Lloyd Thomas for their proposed addition would be the test for the new process. She stated that construction had not yet begun. E. Mason to action 4.0 New Business 4.1) C. Celebre noted the current budget had allowed for two plaques in 2014. She stated that 560 Park Crescent had some concerns with installing the plaque this year due to the construction surrounding the site, so they may want to wait until next year to install a plaque. She questioned whether the funds could be re allocated possibly to the Masonic Temple located in Claremont, noting she had received inquiries from the owner in this regard. 4.2) C. Celebre provided an update with respect to the Whitevale Bridge. She noted a plaque would be installed and the City of Pickering would work together with the Whitevale Bridge Committee as well as Heritage Pickering for the wording on the plaque. She also noted the ends of the posts will have the image of the Whitevale Bird. C. Sopher questioned whether a piece of the sidewalk would have the date inscribed. 4.3) C. Celebre requested that members give some thought to researching properties outside of the Whitevale area for possible designation in order for discussion in September. M. Sawchuck suggested a property similar to 560 Park Crescent which is located on Montgomery Park Crescent as a possibility. C. Sopher suggested Altona Road. E. Mason questioned cemeteries as well as trees for designation purposes. J. Van Huss noted that 5070 Sideline 22 has been converted to offices currently occupied by Transport Canada, which may be worth looking into. Celebre noted that the registration was complete for 2865 Sideline 16, noting the website will be updated accordingly. C. Celebre to action 6.0 Other Business 6.1) C. Sopher questioned whether documentation on the barn demolition had been received and whether the Library receives a copy. C. Celebre noted she would inquire with Becky George. 6.2) E. Mason questioned whether the quarry in Whitevale fell under any jurisdiction for preservation. C. Celebre noted she would look into this to determine whether it would fall under the Natural Heritage District or the development area. 6.3) C. Sopher questioned whether the old dam in Whitevale was included in the Whitevale District. C. Celebre to action C.
