A Statutory Public Meeting was held by the Pickering Town Council on
Monday, June 5, 1989 at 7:30 p.m.

(I) PROPOSED ZONING BY-LAW NUMBERS 3154/89 AND 3155/89

GOLF COURSES

An explanation of the application was given by the Director
of Planning.
Lorne D. A1mack, R.R. #2, Claremont, on heha1f of the
Pickering Rural Association, spoke in support of the
proposed by-laws. He stated that golf clubs are not
environmentally benign as they do affect watercourses,
destroy wood1 and and reduce agri cu1 tura 1 1 ands. He agreed
that applications should be approved on individual merit,
that the preservation of trees should be included in the
development agreement and that there shou1 d be no
exemptions.

3. Corky DeGraauw, 1965 Valley Farm Road, spoke in opposition
to the proposed by-laws. He stated that in 1986 he Vias
told that By-law 3037 permitted golf courses on his
property on Lot 11, Concessi on and si nce that time he has
designed a nine hole golf course, purchased machinery,
created five ponds for irrigation, obtained road access and
planted 3,500 trees as a buffer. His application was to
include estate residential zoning. He requested that the
by-laws be amended to include his property in order to
continue with the golf course construction.
