Minutes Moved by John Sabean Seconded by Gordon Zimmerman That the minutes of the March 15, 2005 meetings be adopted. CARRIED 2. Business Arising 2.1 Recommendations to Council a) Council Representative Pending - A commitment has not been made to date. Pamela to continue to follow up. b) Federal Heritage Committee Rep . John appointed as representative on Federal John to advise Heritage Committee Representative Pamela . He will advise if two committees have been formed or one 2.2 Heritaae Pickerina Materials . samples of pamphlets from various municipalities were provided for the committee's review . members concurred that the first priority would be to have a small pamphlet outlining the role of Heritage Pickering designed and distributed at events as well as placed in various locations; Library, Pickering Town Centre, City Hall, Recreation Complex, etc. Second priority would be a larger publication. Whitevale plaque approved . invitations have been sent and passports/tickets are being assembled . VIP event will include the plaque unveiling and the opportunity for each participating organization to speak briefly 2.4 DesiQnations . Woodruff-McKenzie plaque required John to provide date . funding will be requested from the Federal and Charles to order Government for proper assessment of heritage plaque. significant homes in the airport lands . Markham's tally sheet will be used for assessment 2.5 Whitevale Heritaae District Extension . the Whitevale & District Residents' Association Pamela to continue (WDRA) agrees that the inclusion of undesignated communication with homes in Whitevale in the heritage district designation WDRA. is important . Paul King, Ministry of Culture was contacted regarding Pamela to follow up the process for extending the heritage district designation. He sits on the Provincial Working Group with Paul King. and will advise them of this Committee's recommendation for extension Pamela to advise . City of Pickering will be advised that Committee is Council of working with Province recommendation . approval to be received from City and Province prior to speaking with owners along the Whitevale Road. There are only a few private owners, most property is owned by the Province. 3. Other Business 3.1 Federal Lands . attached are the Heritage Working Committee's objectives 3.2 HeritaQe Position . Pamela met with Neil Carroll and Tim Moore to discuss the idea of a Heritage Planner for the City of Pickering. There are other priorities for 2006 however this position may be considered for the Planning budget of 2007. . In order to meet the needs of the complex issues that Pamela to advise this Committee faces, Council will be approached Council of requesting funding for short-term contact to complete recommendation. work that volunteer hours cannot accommodate. Page 2 Item I Details & Discussion & Conclusion Action Items I Status Ref # (summary of discussion) (include deadline as appropriate) 3.3 Additional Items . consideration to be given to becoming involved in the "Doors Open" event, possibly in collaboration with Ajax . two plaques have been erected at the Quaker Cemetery and the unveiling will take place at 10 am on May 14th . a submission has been made by the owners of the Whitevale Mill to renovate this facility and Pamela has reviewed the plans and provided comments to Tim Moore 4.
