Alma (Chairman) Mr. W. Biernacki Mr. vlm. Clark Mrs. C. Guest Mr. R. Miller Councillor K. Spratley Mr. N.C. Marshall (Clerk) Mr. J.P. Myslik (Secretary) - ALSO PRESENT: Mrs. I. Annis Mr. E. PRESENTATION OF SUr-mER PROJECT A presentation of the Summer Project run by the students and sponsored by the Ministry of Education was given at the Museum. Everybody was pleased with the presentation. 2. HISTORY IN ACTION a) List of Contributors: Weavers: A lady from Ottawa will be present with a 24 inch loom. Norman Fritz to stuff sausages. Bill Fox the Tinsmith will not be coming. Mrs. Fallis, W. Weller, Harold Smith will be present. Mr. Maitland will be there with his horse and buggy. Mr. Maw the Clockmaker will be coming, his son Derek may also be present. Mr. Snider will be present on Saturday with his little engines. Charles Lack will have his traction engine. Mr. Devitt the Stone Worker will be present. The Turners will brinq their old 1630 Romley engine. Hr. s. Tt~.~ Elmer Hood will come to operate the engines. Bill Lishman will be contacted to demonstrate wood carving. Fred Ford and Bruce Wilson will be working on leather tooling. Gerald Hendry will be making harnesses. Dave Choate will come from Peterborough with two old restored motorcycles. Ernie Carruthers has a speaker outfit. Roy Wilson will bring his #16 tractor. Bill Walton will have his mobile enqine. Bun Hamilton will have his father's-model threshing machine and steam engine. He wants a protective snow fence around it. The Senior Citizens will be asked to have a quilting bee in the church. There may possibly be even two quilting bees. Thel~who took care of the tea room last year will be present. The tea ream will be located in the tent, which was bought for $50.00. The rip in the tent is mostly on the seam and Mr. K. Spratley will mend it. Mrs. Sloat will be doing china painting for the two days. - - - 25 - 8/74 List of Contributors (Continued) Walt Hope will operate the shingle mills. Don Lynde will have two fire trucks present with fire extinguishers available. Mrs. Lovestead, Mrs. Devlin and Mrs. Puckrin will be coming. Mr. Bill Clark will bring his model milling machine which produces flour. Joe Champion will bring a tractor. Ivan Law is a Wood Carver, he will be asked to have a display. Hans Loeffler will be contacted for the bread that will be needed. The demonstrators will be identified by name tags. b) Specific Arrangements: Mr. ~q. Biernacki and Councillor K. Spratley will be present to help locate the demonstrators. Mrs. K. Spratley will run the Arts & Crafts Shop. It was asked that no modern automobiles be on the grounds after 10:30 a.m. with the exception possibly of Mr. Wm. Clark, who needs his automobile for tools at the Blacksmith Shop. Mr. R. Freeman will have the rovers to act as parking controls. A garbage pick-up will have to be organized. ,- c) Supplies: Gasoline should be delivered for the engines. The Recreation Department will be asked to have their Parks people bring chairs and garbage cans. Coal is available at Milne Fuels on Cherry Street in Toronto. Mr. R. Miller will arrange for the supply of ,the coal. d) Work Parties: There \.¡ill be a work party on T'Jednesday and Thursday next starting at 6:00 p.m. The benches have to be moved, the stage should be painted and the tent set up. The Kiwanis have wall lamps for the lunch room, they will be set up at least temporarily. e) Safety Recommendations: The safety recommendations mentioned in the last meeting should be followed. A sturdy rope and posts should be placed around the operating machines. f) Publicity: Mr. R. Freeman has set up publicity kits and various members took kits to distribute to various newspapers and radio stations. g) Posters: Posters in Sheridan Mall may be put only inside the stores not facing the Mall. 3. DURHAM BOARD OF EDUCATION Mr. John Pratt has been contacted concerning school tours and the Board has been notified that nothing has been organized this year. The school tours should be started next spring. - 26 - 8/74 4. GUIDES FOR SCHOOL GROUPS Guides should be prepared and available for school groups coming in the autumn. 5. CRAFT COURSES Mrs. I. Annis was thanked for the successful craft courses held during the su~~er~ It is hoped that more will be held next year. 6. L.I.P. GRMqTS The last date for application for L.I.Þ. grants is October lst, 1974. -- 7. BREAK·I~~ There was a break-in, as mentioned in the last minutes, in the Oddfellows Hall. The lock was forced and thrown away. The items taken include straight razors, shaving brushes, ~ats and a vanity. This break-in has been reported to the Police. - 8. OTHER BUSL1ESS a) A letter of thanks should be written to Mrs. Puckrin for redoing a chair during the summer and donating it to the Museum. b) MOTION #40 ì10VED by Hrs. C. Guest, seconded by Councillor K. Spratley that the Reesors be invited to the Museum for an Apple Butter Festival. CARRIED 9.
